Games realistically portraying nuclear war
« on: August 29, 2014, 10:33:47 am »

Hey Bay12, I am looking for games that realistically portray nuclear war, any genre, just portraying nuclear war realistically.

My dream game would be something like Unreal World, but set in a post nuclear war landscape, but I am quite sure that doesn't exist.

I love movies like Threads, The War Game and The Day After(pretty much summed up all the movies of that kind that there exists)

Is there any game portraying nuclear war in a realistic manner? I am not looking for Fallout or 7 Days To Die, while both have nuclear war in their story, they dont portray it very realistically.

Well, there's no nuclear winter (or, conversely, political intervention), but if you like War Games, you might also like DEFCON. If you can stomach the outdated graphics (we're talking EGA here), there's also Bravo-Romeo-Delta, which is more or less "SIOP the Game".

I already know DEFCON, in its physics its not very realistic but it portrays nuclear war in a reality-close way, you have to think of the same strategies that a strategic missile commander would have to think.

There's The Day After (or something like that), which is basically Blitzkrieg but in an aftermath of a nuclear conflict during the sixties. Not sure if it fills your realism quota since it's mostly focused on tactical combat with most of the stuff abstracted for easier gameplay (it's still fucking hard though).

I cant find any places that sell the game, or find it on any abandonware sites.

Probably because game used different name most of the world. Here is a link to wiki about a game, try searching for any of its names: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Missile_Crisis:_The_Aftermath

Well there's Amazon, tho I'm not sure how reliable that is: http://www.amazon.com/Cuban-Missile-Crisis-Aftermath-PC/dp/B000BVP35A

They have a digital version too but that's 20 bucks and US only. Other than that there doesn't seem to be any trace of the game left on the internet :S

Well, you always have the seafaring option if you don't find anything else :S

Maybe two saints and a mildly irate videogamer just to be safe.
