Elephant food
« on: June 30, 2007, 08:23:00 am »

Apparently an elephant was killed outside my fortress and I thought I saw one of my dwarves dragging its corpse. Now the corpse is near the front of my fortress but I can't seem to do anything with it... Is there any use for it? Can I get rid of it? I don't know why it was left where it is...

Create a refuse stockpile. The dwarves will drag it to the garbage heap, and once it is there, you can order your butcher's workshop to butcher a corpse. If there are any corpses stored, the butcher will go find it, bring it back, and reduce it to meat/skin/bone/chunks.

No, I think the cook would be in charge of sugar-coating the cows.

You are a lifesaver! Round and probably in tropical flavors.

If you need to get something butchered fast, try creating a tiny refuse pile directly under it. I do this whenever a bunch of monkeys or raid and litter the area in front of my gate with their corpses, it beats turning outdoor refuse gathering on and having my dwarves range all over the place collecting dead butterflies or whatever.
