Hmmm. Speaking of variant rules, PN, would taking the Item Familiar feat (with the condition that I will not be using the Invest Life Energy or (obviously, given I'm not a caster) Invest Spell Slots functions) be acceptable?

You really can both sig it.
But... That would break the laws of sigging! We can't have everyone running around with the same quotes. IT MAKES THEM UNFUNNY FASTER!

Honestly, I don't know. I've never played in Eberron before.

Where are you getting the half-golem from?

Here. Now, before you cry foul, if you take a look at the second page, it has a very clear description of how to create a Half-Golem, with language that indicates that it was designed to be used by characters. Then, on the third page, it lists CR as "As character +x", clearly saying that it can be used by players.

Oh, damn, for a moment there I was hoping that that was some other Half-Golem source I hadn't seen.
Unfortunately, if you read the template, the "character" language isn't PC-specific ("“Half-golem” is a template you can add to any animal, beast, giant, humanoid creature, magical beast, or monstrous humanoid (referred to hereafter as “the character”)".), the use of "beast" indicates it's a 3.0 source, CR isn't the same as LA and is irrelevant for PCs, and the source these particular half-golems are an expansion on (also a 3.0 source) listed them as "LA —" in the 3.5 update booklet.
Sorry =S

*Cough.*
Truenamers are tier 4 at best, tier 7 at worst.  Actually worse than a Warrior unless played perfectly.

Not when you abuse Halfbreeds. YOU GET BOTH RACES ABILITY MODS. I can take any race that a PC can play as, and water it down until it is only 2 LA. Any ability score setup is 2 LA.

Notably, that's in the homebrew section of the website.

Urgh. Damn. I loved that rule. I thought it was in Races of the Wild or UA.

Give someone else my slot for now.
