Basically it's no rust, not metal special properties. Acts just like Masterwork steel. Let me find it in the books.

I recall crystal from Pathfinder, but not from 3.5e. Maybe they're in one of the splatbooks?

Also, can we use the Craft Points variant rule from Unearthed Arcana? It fits very well with this campaign, since I gather we'll not have a whole lot of downtime...

Edit: Would it be too much cheese if I took a couple flaws and gained Craft Magic Arms and Armor, and Craft Wondrous item?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.
