Cows?

I decided to get a cow, hoping it would be a worthwhile investment. How do I milk my cow? Does the cow need to be above ground, or will it survive below ground? Will cows beed with other cows, or is there a bull or something I can find?

Currently, you can't milk cows. Most animals breed if you have one of the opposite gender. Animals can survive rather easily, as you don't need to feed them and they can just hang around forever. If you didn't bring a second cow, the only way to get anouther cow to breed your cows is by trading for it, which will take a while.

I suggest building a butcher shop (outside or near the outside so you dont get miasma) and turning that cow into some nice meat. heh heh heh...

The game lists cow's milk as one of the items you can purchase at the beginning. Maybe you can milk cows?

No, sorry, everything is there to milk cows, but you can't milk them. I know, im sad too. Theres even an option at the farmers workshop.

A cow will give milk for a limited period of time after giving birth. I don't know if that holds true in the game, though.

AFAIK, only purring maggots are milkable so far. Cow cheese does exist, but you can't make it.

You can trap them in chasms, but there used to be a bug where dwarves would eat any small animals like that, and I don't know if it's been fixed yet.
