there's mortal online if you're not looking for the typical mmorpg themepark grindfest and more of an open world type thing. It's broken in other ways though.

Holy shit Darkfall is bad.
I like games with harsh consequences on death so I gave it a try. Didn't even finish the tutorial.

No matter how good the game may or may not be, I'm fucking sick of trite game mechanics from 2004.
Clunky interface, check.
God-awful inventory management with a million different junk drops worth zero gold, check. Seriously? Are we still supposed to sort through monster testicles in our backpacks to find the useful drops?
Instant mob respawn in your face, check. Trash 2-hittable mobs, posing absolutely no danger, insta-respawning just to annoy the shit out of the player while he's looting his zombie testicles.
2D map in zones with vertical expansion, check. How fucking hard is to put an up or down arrow next to the icons in the minimap?
Pointless time sinks, check. From crafting progress bars, to walking from A to B to A to B to A to B, to RNG drops.

If these are the premises, I'm not going to bother at all with this game.
Not sure why developers keep insisting on old, overdone mechanics, only to shut down games a year later.
I think I'm about to write off the entire genre. Maybe with the exception of truly innovative games like Star Citizen.

So I got ESO for 16 EU...I'm in US so take in exchange rate. Cheaper than even amazon is currently, which I'd have gone with but it wasn't the downloadable one and I don't like a bunch of game boxes everywhere or paying the california tax on it on top of the shipping fee. It also came with the explorer DLC thing which was a nice bonus to me.

I'll be installing it at some point in the next few days, but I already got the account setup. Mostly to make sure the cd key worked, and it did. :) so that was great. Got it off one of those key shops I found off a popular site. Dunno if you're supposed to talk about that here, cause they seem kind of fishy...and probably get their keys in an illegal manner cause why else so cheap.

In any case...explorer DLC is on my account too so that is great. I guess it was supposed to be a pre-order thing? That is what the site said. Still got it lol.

(edit) Guess according to google it comes out to 21 USD, so not bad at all.

buddy if you base your entire opinion on the tutorial then i have bad new for you.
besides darkfall being a shit game for entirely other reasons then what you mentioned which are really not bad.
if you're going to run around complaining about mob drops in a pvp based game then you should reconsider how you play.

I'm complaining about obsolete game mechanics that have been recycled for years and, for some reason, brainwashed players still find acceptable in 2014.
I've been playing mmos since ultima online in the late 90s, so I don't need to play a game for 60 hours to realize the interface, inventory management and crafting system are absolute garbage.
So I don't think I'm gonna invest any time into this garbage to discover how much it also sucks in everything else beyond the tutorial, wich should be (and usually is) the most polished area.

Also, developers disappearing for an entire month without a word.
It surely will be a milestone in mmo history.
Like SWTOR or ESO or all the other piles of steaming faeces we've been delivered in the last years.

Yes, the Explorer's Pack was pre-order DLC. Then, when the game released, it was also packaged in all the over-the-counter versions, at least for a while.
