Which server are we supposed to use?
Use Werty's above, unless you all want me to put one up too.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I keep getting "Network-Game connection lost" every time I try to connect, I think the join timeout is too low.

Must be a problem on your end then. Aklyon and Hugehead are both online.

I've taken the server down for now, but I'll throw it up again tomorrow.

What kind of profit does that make though? One of the things keeping me from playing this is having to engineer complicated systems for trains (which I imagine is what attracts most people to the game in the first place).

Trucks are a great way to make money fast early game, to spend on more complicated systems like rail and air later.
The investment is small compared to trains. Loading bays cost nothing, and the vehicles themselves are cheap enough to afford them in bulk from game start.
Iron ore >> steel mill and coal >> power plant are both good options to start with.
Buses not so much, unless you already have towns that are developed enough to fill them up.

Avoiding traffic jams takes some trial and error, and nefarious one way pathing though.

The main cost from road vehicles is the road maintenance you have to pay.

You could always just do boats instead. ;)
Though having trains also helps.

Oh geez, I'm remembering that islands map we did on the server a while back, and I built a road to collect oil by truck from one side of the map to the other.
