I'd suggest making them increase reloading by a really small amount -maybe even as low as 0.5 s- but be the same size as Missile Traps.
Maybe to increase not in a fixed amount of seconds, but in percentage instead? Like, adding one small "missile reload improver" (need to have a good name) makes reloading missiles 15-20% quicker. This is a really easy to add, so I can have it in the nearest update (only a matter of graphical assets).

That should make Missile-oriented ships a plausible option, I look forward to it.

Quote
You see, at one point I had every ship have a hanger bay and every single one was full of Fighters filled with as many Missile Traps as I could stuff in them- they could be used as a 'wall' or to distract the enemy.
BTW, that's why I want to make a "combat network" module that will allow ships to protect each other. In this case fighters will be able to use their missile traps to protect capital ships.

Well, you can already set fighters to 'follow' a particular Capital Ship, so in a sense the option is already there.

Quote
I still equip my ships with Missile Traps, but if I could make Capital Ships Macross Massacre effectively at the cost of those Missile Traps I'd simply focus more on my 'Wall' of Fighters.
Fighters will become less effective against capital ships in the nearest release because of switching on the "active armour" feature.

The Wall of Fighters aren't actually aimed at attack.

They act as a buffer and/or distraction between my opponent's missiles or fighters so my capital ships can attack the main target without being swarmed.

Now, to finally download the new update!

This is a bit different. "Escorting" a ship means fighter will follow a ship and attack any potential danger. But they do not use their weapon and traps to intercept torpedoes targeted to the ship they escort.

OK, got it. I thought it's about the "ship of the wall" concept from Honor Harrington books :)

Interesting... I can think of a few ways to abuse this though. Such as designing a ship that's all engines and hangers to preoccupy the enemies fighters while my real attack force strikes at the main target/s.

Also, I downloaded the patch and used on version Alpha15A- would I have the features introduced in Alpha15D? Not sure how the patches work.

Just unzip the patch and overwrite old files with those from the patch.

Alright, used Patch and have noticed the following:

-If you have a trade agreement with a nation and proceed to diplomance that nation into becoming one with you, the trade agreement doesn't disappear- it continues to suck away at your resources. You can't cancel it either since you'd need the diplomancy screen for the nation which no longer exists. Opps...

-When you diplomance a nation, some of their ships start off with more fuel then they supposebly can hold. Once the excess is drained away it's gone permanently, but I'd already taken advantage of it to colonize the tip of one of the arms...

-Arians don't start off with Oceanic Domes, havn't tried Vagalars as yet.

Actually, none of racial bonuses / drawbacks work for the player. AIs got them just fine.

Is the star for experience linear? If it is, then I suggest making the first star a 10 or maybe a 15 percent bonus, and having it capped at 25 at the fifth star. I suggest this for two reason. One is to make sustaining ships and making retreating more worthwhile. Right now losing an entire fleet doesn't really matter. And the other is to to a show a tangible difference with green crews and veteran crews.

I would suggest even consider looking into unit promotion a la civ series. Though this departs from space 4x games, the genre tend to use HERO'S as the means for giving special abilities. Overall I favor per unit upgrade, as its one less screen to go, one less then to micro manage.

It is not linear in the sense of gaining experience, but close to linear in the sense of bonus.

It increases Damage and Range of weapons
Damage: 5% for one star, 25% for five stars
Range: 2.5% for three stars, 7.5% for five stars

Maybe it makes sense to have a popup showing these bonuses when a mouse is over experience stars of a particular ship?

Also there will be a special training buildings that allow to get one star (or maybe even two stars) for units that use them.

Using Civ-like promotions is a very interesting idea, really like it!

Finally trying Hard, as the Magellans- I have been going through the process of Invading a Human Planet, then crying for 'Mercy'- I could take not being able to build anything above Corvette when no player had anything above a corvette..

Now that I'm starting to build Frigates I've backed off, but I made sure to be Allied with four other Races so they wouldn't seek vengeance... ignoring the fact I'm building them (the frigates) away from human sight since the current treaty doesn't allow me to build them. Distance is my friend!

  ...

I just created an analogy to the causes of WWII, with me being Germany. Welp.

Yes, when they cannot see your frigates, they think you fulfil the agreement. This will change in the next version with espionage enabled - you attempts to build frigates can be detected by their spies.

Yeah, Espionage will make things more difficult, I stick with distance is your friend in my former situation even with espoinage- Spies would still have to get all the through enemy territory which is potentially uncharted on their map, to find my Frigates.

Doesn't matter now- the current treaty with the humans allows the construction of craft larger then Corvette, and the Urgans are unable to break through hte buffer of former Gavaken Territory to get to my shipyards. I've got a bigger problem...

I've just Diplomatically absorbed two, maybe three nations, a sixth of which have declared Independance due a sudden unexpected food shortage. I honestly didn't expect the Logans and Gavaken to be Diplomanced so easily, I just hit the option to see how politically close I was... Opps.

On the bright side, I am now almost as large as the Urgans in terms of Territory and the second most Technologically Advanced known at present.

Looks like I need to work more on diplomacy here. Absorption should not be that easy. Also I need to fix this food shortage after absorption issue.

Oh, it wasn't easy, there was alot of resources dropped and a few Techs granted which I'd already had counters for. Although I did grant a Capital and Fighter Ship Class to the Gavaken so they'd hold off the Urgans (so I could focus on the Humans). Diplomancing is a pain, and I'm fairly sure there is no way I'm diplomancing the Urgans or Humans this match.

I basically had a Three-Hundred Year 'Cold War' Soviet-Style with the Urgans, with the Gavaken acting as my buffer- they aren't very happy with me, especially as a decent amount of the territory I got from the Gavaken was former Urgan territory they were close to regaining...

I've been striking at the Humans for most of that three hundred years, and have cost them alot of ships with my former long-range capability. They basically hate me and I'm considering abadoning the Arians, who I only cozied up to so I could ally up with the Gavaken, to improve relations with the Humans while I deal with the Uprising and Food Supply.

On the bright side, I am now almost as large as the Urgans in terms of Territory and the second most Technologically Advanced known at present.
Then it looks like you can start a holy war :)

If I didn't have other problems, all those uprisings have caused my shipyards to operate at a third efficiency due to 'Fear of Invasion'- I'd probably have twice as much Food Production if it weren't for that alone. The Humans are a more immediate threat as well, and I'd rather not fight the Largest (Urgans) and Third Largest (Humans) as the Second Largest, at least not at the same time.

Picking your battles is just as important as winning said battles, since sending your ships to one place can leave you undefended in others. Winning the wrong Battles can cost you more then losing other battles- there is a reason for the term Pyrric Victory, and it isn't pretty. Hell, the Human Situation in my game is the perfect example...
