Preparing for the Full Moon
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:19:05 pm »

I had one injured, but not killed dwarf after a wereiguana attack. Then forgot about him until he killed multiple of my dwarves, and injured others... Now I've got half a fortress of potential future werecreatures.

My entire fortress is a ticking timebomb till the next full moon... Anything I can do to help put of the impending doom?

If you know which dwarves definitely didn't get attacked, put them in a safe area

And take advantage of the fact that these are enemies you can order around like normal dwarves. Lock the ones you suspect behind a raising drawbridge, preferably close to your entrance so that you can unleash them upon enemies in an emergency. They can destroy doors so locking them up somewhere won't do

If you still have the combat logs, look for successful bites.

Otherwise I would try to seperate the fortress into as many pieces as possible with temporary walls, to keep those safe that don't transform. Isolating everyone who can be isolated, and splitting the rest into smaller groups at least, hoping some areas won't have any werebeasts.

Here's the problem... I have no clue how many were attacked, and how many may have been bitten. I've blocked in the hospital, all dwarves there are condemned to die, but other than that, I've got no clue where potential werebeasts may be hiding

I'm almost disappointed... Only two turned, and they were peasants in the hospital. Who proceeded to attack each other before killing the other patients. Now I've only got one to deal with

Not everyone who gets bit by a were ends up catching it. I had a dwarf get bitten by a werecavy and I locked him up for 3 or 4 months, but he never turned. I'm certain he got bit, the combat log was quite clear.

If Toady wanted to make it really FUN, he should make it so that not everyone catches it, and so that it has a random incubation period. So a dwarf might go several months before he starts turning. Maybe even years. Then you'd never be absolutely certain if Urist McWerechow is really safe or not.

Or maybe he already did that...

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.
