Cut/encrust with generic "gem"
« on: August 25, 2014, 07:10:19 am »

At some point you will inevitably mine out enough gem clusters, your whole jeweler's workshop menu would drown into options. Gems become almost impossible to process efficiently through manager and workshop alike.

Adding jobs that work for any gem available would make late game more comfortable, don't you think?

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

That would be REALLY great.

I think the idea of picking a category instead of a specific material would have applications beyond gem encrusting, especially if those categories could be defined by the player (at about the UI friendliness of macros).  Then you could have "worthless gem" and "semi-precious gem" and so on.  Since those are obvious groupings, they might come pre-baked in vanilla.  Someone with a lot of him on his hands will then publish the textfiles to categorize Every Little Thing in the Game.

So you'd be able to outfit your squad with "reptilian leather" armor, encrust a weapon with a "red gem" and build beds out of "mundane wood."

To do what I ask would just make it like it is for masons and carpenters, you are offering something new. Although it would be useful to have a list like we have for stones. We have at least one economic gem (rock crystal) after all.
