The blacksmith smiles as Isabelle walks up. "Thank you. Image is very important for business and even a simple blacksmith can benefit from  a reputation as a...  someone who can handle himself." He tosses the axe into a nearby bin as he walks back into his smithy, motioning for you to follow. "What can I do for you?"

You ask the innkeeper and he directs you to a house on the north side of the village. He says that the woman who resides there makes clothes of all sorts and her son sells them at the market.

It's only a short walk and when you knock on the door a young boy opens the door. Before either of you can talk a voice calls from inside: "I assume you're here for mending of some sort. Come in, come in." Inside you find a woman with grey hair and a deeply lined face. "Such fine clothes, not something you often see in places like these."

Vorot treks out of town towards the forest by the mountain. For the moment the pickings look slim as the only animal you see is a rabbit that spotted you first.

Kalen self consciously examines his outfit for damage, and offers the woman something between a smirk and a smile. "No. Not at all. I think my clothes are fine, and I wasn't expecting to come across materials to equal them in a town like this. I am merely looking to get my daughter an outfit that can be described as comfortable and practical, while maintaining at least some style; Children her age tend to get into all sorts of silly things that they shouldn't be dragging their finery into."

The shadow elf briefly pauses to take in his surroundings before continuing. "Although if you have or can produce in time a hat or accessory fit for the girl to wear to today's trial, I suppose I can treat her."

Vorot tries something different, giving in to his primal instincts and becoming the biggest, meanest shadow in the forest. After a while he finds a deer, grazing and somehow completely unaware of the orge crouching only an axe-throw away from it.

"Knives are good," says the blacksmith, "everybody wants a knife of some sort and most can find a use for them. Throwing knives though, they need to be balanced. The last time I made throwing knives it was for some bard with so many colours on his coat it'd make you dizzy just thinking about it. I still remember how I made them and he seemed pleased with them. I could make you some knives for, let's say, 26 crowns apiece or, given your line of work, you might want larger knives for 36 crowns apiece."

"I could make her a dress fit for the fair for 60 crowns," says the clothier, "or I could make her a hat for 12 crowns. The hat could be made in time for the trial of course."

Isabelle nods.
"Okay, I'll have three of the larger knives please."

Send a hatchet flying at his target, if it try to run away he will just chase it, he might not outrun it but he should be able to run longer than a deer. It would be a good exercise too.

Kalen nods, and produces twelves crowns, before giving his daughter a glance. "I suppose we shall get a hat then. If this woman's handiwork is up to your standards, girl, and your father can find more work that keeps him around town, we will get you a dress next."

The elf shrugs. "You can wait here, give your measurements, collect your hat, and then find a way to keep occupied until the trial, right? I expect to see you there and well dressed."

Assuming the dependent doesn't need babysitting at the moment, Kalen decides to wander town for a spell. He has no particular goal, just checking out the lay of the land mostly, but he keeps his eyes open for the following things/opportunities:

-People selling potions/oils/scrolls/wands or whatever useful consumables exist in this setting that Kalen could both afford and use without magical training.
-Opportunities to boast about his adventures at the Skull Cave
-Opportunities to satisfy his lechery

The blacksmith starts counting on his fingers, "Three blades would take almost three days of work. I could have them made by noon tomorrow but they wouldn't be worth 36 crowns, probably half of that."

"Hope your wound isn't troubling you." he says as he gestures to the bloodied cut in your leather armour.

Vorot slowly raises his huge throwing axe before throwing it at the deer. The axe hits home and the deer staggers for just a moment before falling to the ground, dead.

As Kalen walks around he finds himself wishing that villages had shops like towns. Near the east edge of the village he spots an attractive young woman tending to a small garden. While she just seems like a pretty face from afar, he recognises one of the plants as he gets closer. It's poisonous and quite expensive where he comes from.

Kalen saunters up to the garden with a huge smile. It was enough that she was a fair human woman, but the poisonous plant was quite the bonus. If she was growing it for sale, the buyer might be the sort who would hire somebody like Kalen; If she was growing it for personal use... well then the shadow elf would have some blackmail quality dirt on her...

"Well, well, I know roses have thorns, but a beauty such as yourself growing Sun Peril seems a bit much, no?" He gestures to the plant in question as he speaks, to account for the likelyhood that she wasn't aware of the Shadow Elf street name, the only term he actually knew for the growth.

Vorot pulls his axe from the deer and pulls the carcass onto his shoulders. He takes it back to the village hoping that someone there will know how to preserve the meat.

The blacksmith cocks his eyebrow at the eight-foot-tall dark one, "Don't forget to pick them up when they're done."

She stands up, throwing a handful of weeds into a nearby wooden bucket. "I've been told that my sun peril is quite popular in the shadow of the King's Throne. You might even have a taste for it by now. I'm sure someone as handsome as you has offended someone's honour."

((I think vorot should know how to preserve meat))
After putting the meat away, the orge go look for the blacksmith.

Isabelle nods before mumbling something and scratching her cheek.
