The Minneapolis riots in response to George Floyd's death murder on camera by a cop have now set the Police Precinct on fire (after the cops and AG came out saying prosecution of the cop that murdered someone on camera with zero mitigating circumstance wasn't justified). National Guard has been called, but not yet arrived. Looting and destruction of shops is ongoing.
Getting pretty ugly out there...
Added a little context there.
I've seen a bemusing number of Facebook friends cheering on the looters and arsonists.
Like, "fuck yeah! They burnt down McDonald's! That'll teach those abusive cops!" ...or something? I don't know.
Context here is that most of the major building damage has been hitting chain stores and shit, out of towner stuff, generally the kind of thing that's pretty predatory and fucks with that local economy by leveraging out of area resources to undercut competitors and crap. Most of the impetus behind
that is 'cause the cops in the area the police murdered someone on camera at is majority (Like 90+% or something) staffed by non-locals, too. So they're basically (primarily, if not entirely -- riots are messy shit, maybe
don't act like an abusive occupying army and/or go to bat for explicit murder and trigger them) punching back at folks from outside the area, that's come in and shat on the locals, one way or another.
Step one to not getting your business hit in a riot like this: Don't try too hard to put locals out of business, also treat your local workers really damn well, maybe make sure you're throwing your weight rapidly and without hesitation behind bringing a fucking murderer to very speedy account. Simple things, really.
