Crimes actually committed related to the stuff? Trespassing, harassment, whatever trying to lure kids away from bus stops is, the one kid (late teens or somethin', iirc) stabbed to death, other stuff I'm forgetting. The clown thing is triggering a lot of people super bad.  I got to listen to a couple normally mild-mannered co-workers rant together the other day about how they would stab any dumb motherfucker they ever saw out in public in a clown costume.  One of those co-worker's kids had recently seen someone in a car costume driving, and was really freaked out by it.  So they were in enraged mother mode.

I'm in the all this overreacting is dumb camp.

Eh, someone was stabbed to death and left with a clown mask on their head, more specifically. Actual clowns in the performance/job sense haven't seemed to be much involved save for being threatened by folks worried about these other chucklefucks, so far and so far as I'm aware.

But yeah, it's not just a case of people seeing clowns. There's people dressing up as clowns and then doing a fair amount of varying shit of varying degrees of (il)legality. The reaction is definitely excessive but it's not exactly unfounded.

The only known crimes were the kid murdered while wearing a clown mask/murdered and left with a clown mask to make it look connection to the Honkening, and random teenagers being dumbasses copy-catting false reports who got nailed for "terrorism".

I don't know how it can 'look' connected. There's no centralized clown system. You can be a clown if you want.

Back on topic, neither sleet nor snow nor fucking hurricane will stop the police in the discharge of their appointed rounds.

Granted, this could have been a looter, and I'm reserving judgement until more info comes out. But really? There's a historic flood on and you still gotta shoot a guy? Because he was "angry"?
And considering the conditions, I highly doubt there will be any bodycam or dashcam video available.

And nah, nenj. Unless something's changed, the source was tracked down to some kind of reaction to some sort of local art/movie project, that spread to nearby towns and then kept going.  Nothing to do with marketing, basically. Just your fairly standard viral memetic spread.
