Being arrested for resisting arrest.
100% legit force, my friends.
100%.

Something something evil vs worse evil. No matter who you root for, you just feel so dirty.
It's a public defender, so she's most likely Lawful Good actually.

Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

At the very least, neutral.
But yea, how often though, would you think a lawyer would stick their neck out for their clients like that?  Being arrested is a huge inconvenience and under normal circumstances, becomes a he said-she said thing that may end up coming out in favor of the cop... if it ain't for the video anyways.  (Not sure if she knew it was being recorded or not.)

Mind you, I don't know jack of what typically happens 'after'.

I was trying to be polite. Shut it with the lawyer jokes.

I think most lawyers would leap on a free, recorded case of (unharmful) police misconduct like this.  It's only going to help her add a win to her record, and probably get some positive PR.  Public defenders have a thankless job for relatively little money, and this one just got a golden opportunity.

Assuming there was actual police misconduct here.  Sure looks like it, but I'm not a lawyer.  Possibly the charge should have been "interfering", not resisting, it sure seems like they screwed that up at least.

"I'm going to arrest you for resisting arrest" is now one of my favorite phrase.

It's... really common though.  I've seen so many cases of people getting arrested for questioning an officer's reasoning, and attempting to invoke their rights.  Or beaten up for resisting arrest, because an officer puts them in a painful or life-threatening position (such as a knee on the throat) and don't remain still for it.  That phrase is the essence of a fuckton of police behavior.

Oh, arrested for obstructing or something sure, but stating that the reasons for arrest is that you're resisting arrest is so kafkaesque. I mean, you can't resist until they try to arrest you, and they can't arrest you until they resist. It's like they're Time Lords or something.

Chicago Police department blatantly ignores constitutional rights. Something might actually happen on this one though, some senior justice department officials are calling for an investigation.

Ok, the link works for me now.  Odd.

Anyway, I've been hearing about people being treated like that, especially in relation to protest, ever since I started paying attention.  I've seen dozens of stories of protesters kept in vans, buses, and mass detentions for many hours, sometimes while horribly injured, without any of their legal rights being served or urgently needed medical attention.  The only thing different about this is the revelation of a facility being dedicated to such practices, but I'm not surprised that I big city like Chicago would have one.  I'm sure others with notoriously corrupt police forces like New York or Los Angeles also have them.

For what it's worth, you can find an article questioning the guardian's here, which includes police responses to the accusations in question.

I have zero knowledge of how reputable the chicago sun is, though.
