Does an RPG count as a gun?

I actually watched a low speed car chase the other day, thing was pretty funny. The guy must of only been doing about 50 km/hr & the police were just following him as he looped round the block. Guy has to stop eventually right?

This is where I take issue with so much police behavior in the U.S..  They could resolve so many of these situations without anyone getting hurt if they'd approach them with some strategy and patience.  But they always seem to want to jump in head first and make things as dangerous as they can possibly be for everyone, including themselves.

There's another incident making the internet rounds recently where an officer walked into a situation and literally said "We don't have time for this" before shooting a restrained teenager dead, right in front of his parents.

And I'm sure many people would reason that this must be some symptom of an under-staffing problem.  Too few police dealing with too many problems, and don't feel like they can take a patient approach to each one.  But that doesn't make any sense, because isn't there a crap load of stuff that needs to be done following any fatality in a police encounter?  Scene has to be blocked off and manned for hours, followed by many more hours of paperwork and meetings with investigators/supervisors and likely time in court?  How can they have time for all that?
What did we learn today?  Don't call the cops to diffuse a situation.

... Well, this goes in line with something posted earlier... Police Stations routinely rejects applicants who are 'too smart'.

this isn't going to get fixed because it benefits the people in power.

And this is exactly why there are so many who dont believe anything can be made better without some application of violence, but those people have to deal with being discredited as conspiracy theorists for having that perspective.

are you saying I'm a conspiracy theorist or that I will be treated as such?

I think it's a known fact that this benefits the power structure we have. Well, at least to the people that are not in power. I'm white, so I get a huge advantage and am much less likely to be murdered by a cop, but I'm still scared, and even more scared for all POC

There are many who will label you conspiracy theorist for suggesting that either the institution of law enforcement has been designed to be this way or that regardless it will not be altered now because of conscious decision and agreement by "those in power" (this terminology alone will get you).

I dont know if I would call it a majority any longer, but there remains a very large portion of the U.S. who refuse to entertain any notion that unfortunate tendencies of behavior by institutions of authority could possibly be a product of intentional design for purpose of oppression or malice. Most people still dont even believe in half the tactics police are proven to use against peaceful protests, and will disregard a mountain of cases as isolated incidents not indicative of anything larger.

A Conservative Australian leader and some of his party took one for the team and outlawed a number of firearms iirc. Helped a lot with gun deaths.
I think it was actually pretty poor policy, a knee jerk reaction to single event with a lot of political grandstanding. The existing laws (shooter's licenses and firearm registration) were effective in that Australia had a fairly low rate of firearm violence that was in gradual decline. This trend has basically continued since then. The new policy of further restricting gun ownership and spending a lot of money buying back guns at market prices didn't address the main problems with gun deaths: suicide by legal gun owners and sporadic gun violence within organised crime.

If I had to name a difference between present day white Americans and black Americans, it'd be that the former are being told to live their lives in fear of getting killed in a terrorist attack, while the latter are being told to live theirs in fear of getting killed by the police.   </sarcasm>

that didn't need the sarcasm tag. It is pretty spot on.

Plus cops are unfair to black people in a lot of ways that aren't lethal too.

unfair is such an understatement.

If you listen to the dialogue between the police and garner before that outright murder him on camera, for example, it's obvious they have been targeting and harassing him regularly. Also stop and frisk, also racial profiling.

And yes I realize he was selling loose cigarettes, but NY is a big city. The cops seriously have nothing better to do with their time than to bully people committing the most minor infractions against the law. I mean, don't they have something productive they could be doing like fighting actual dangerous criminals?
