How do I specify crafting material.
« on: August 23, 2014, 11:10:59 am »

I am a newb, and I'm trying to get the craftdwarf to make jet pots, because jet is very light apparently, and that's a good pot material. Is there anyway to tell them to make it out of jet?

Odds are they'll make it out of chalk, and that would be disgusting for food.

This is an exceptional golden figurine of a Peregrine Falcon. All Maltese craftsmanship is of the highest quality. It is studded with Baguette-cut diamonds. It is covered in black lacquer. The item is a masterfully designed image of a pointed cross. The pointed cross is the symbol of the Knights Hospitaller.

Also, I just got a figurine from a fey mood. Do I sell it? Do I display it? How do I display it?

If you're hungry for some fun, and it's valuable, you should keep it. You can't display it, but you can use it as a valuable trading good. That will help when you want to buy a ton but don't want to wait for the dwarves to finish hauling all those gems or coins.

Also, you can't specify a crafting material for something. That's crappy, and we all hate it, but until some future update that will not be possible. It's less annoying than not being able to specify which thing to encrust with gems, however.

The best way to demonstrate it to him is take a save of 40 year old fortress with 150 dwarves in it on a good sized embark with a volcano that just breached the circus and install it on his gaming rig and watch it bring his rig to its knees.

There isn't an easy way to do that, but you can create a stockpile that only accepts jet, and link it to the desired workshop. This will prevent the workshop from using materials from other stockpiles.

You can't trade artifacts. Dwarves won't haul them to the depot.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.
