Determining what is horrifying dwarves?
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:07:32 pm »

Short of something in dfhack, is there a way of determining why a dwarf has become horrified?  I've seen cases where they're possibly horrified by enemy body parts, which I suppose I could understand, but other times I can't find anything within 50 squares that would make sense.

One dwarf has been frozen in horror for almost 5 months.

I had a refuse stockpile near the main entrance to my fort, and my dwarves kept getting freaked out whenever they had to go near it. Damn near paralyzed my fort until I moved the stockpile just a touch north, a few squares away from the main traffic.

If it's near your refuse pile that they are getting freaked out, it's likely the body parts of enemies, or especially scary monsters. I usually just dump anything likely to cause a scare into a pit with a smasher at the bottom.

It can be a little crazy when half the fort is unable to do any jobs near the refuse pile because of a single goblin hand that snuck in.

Body parts in trees can do it, so you have to look up as well as around.

So do they get experience with exposure?.  What grants discipline experience?

Being exposed to fearful things seems to train Discipline.  All barracks military training jobs also train Discipline.
