Ok, things are progressing again. A few updates for the weekend.

I have caught up on requests.

Bluescreen, you requested arena combat with cavern creatures:

It could have gone better. You're both injured, your war animals are dead. Oh, and you each racked up 2 kills. What about the grimeling? It's still alive. You just can't seem to kill the darned thing. Everything is red but you just can't seem to kill it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You're still fighting.

Another useless artifact was created:

One will go to improving the Duke's bedroom (the red zircon amulet), the other will be made into a statuary for the citizens' pleasure.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's only mid-Autumn, so no new paydays. And somebody threw a tantrum and knocked down the trade depot.

Ok, Meph.

How the heck do I kill a Grimeling?

Snu-Snu and Bluescreen have been at it in the arena for months. They are nearly starving and dehydrated. I opened it up and sent in all other military and heroes. They're still going at it. Axes, swords, spears, hammers, bows, handcannons, knuckledusters, you name it.

This thing is not dying. I've broken, bruised and dented every conceivable body part, the creature is fully red. It simply will not die.

it needs to be bisected or decapitated. I myself am confused. I managed to kill my grimelings with a level 3 axedwarf, steel axe. I don't know why you are so unlucky.

Hmph. Considering Snu-Snu is a legendary axebarbarian and has a steel greataxe it should have happened already.

Nothing was working, reverted to last save. Trying something new. I made an *orichalum battle-axe* and have sent Mephistopheles to assist, and pretty much everyone else. I suppose it is possible that Snu-Snu was not cleaving due to her injured arm.

We'll see if that works.

I don't use dfhack.

FYI for the up and coming archer Ari
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Combat logs. Snu-Snu's are similar but tons of pages. I have 40+ pages of logs for just the grimeling.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Edit:

No luck. 2 months of wailing on the thing with my entire military and no luck. Meph had the *Orichalum battle axe* and even she could not kill it with skill 9 in all combat skills. I'm at an impasse.

Does removing [Trapavoid] tag in raw affect the creature if it is already genned? I even built a trap outside of the arena and tried to lure it in but it walked over the trap like it wasn't there.

Edit 2: Ok, I've managed to get the creature outside the city walls by adding in the Balrog entrance for the arena (external only). Bluescreen and Snu-Snu have been rescued and are resting in bed. (Bluescreen has a broken arm, Snu-Snu a dented arm and foot)

The Grimeling killed a few civilians that it chased to the south portion of the map and is now hanging out near the city gates. It is not attacking nor running away. We'll see how the merchant guards handle it. Barring that I can always call for a siege to see how it fares. heh.

The city is running again after that strange issue.

I wonder if the others realize the story is active still. They were probably waiting awhile. Personally, I was lucky I still check the forum semi-regularly. Now, I still have to figure out my design for my business venture and I'm at an impasse. As of my last post I have gotten no further. I just don't know enough to finish it and the Wiki didn't fill in all the gaps. Perhaps I should ask about raising animals in another forum... Of course, I have plenty of time to figure it out because I don't have the funds and won't for awhile. I considered asking for investors to speed up the process, but we hardly have the active player base in this thread to even bother trying it anymore. All my good ideas have been stalled. I'm frustrated.

On another note, whoever voted deliberate "misinterpretation" of requests should be fed to the Grimeling. And there were 4 of them? Really? I hope none of them happened to be one of the others who just didn't feel like bothering anymore and didn't say anything.  ::)

I'm still around. Just waiting for things to happen.

Has my Weaponsmith made an artifact yet?

Have William continue training his combat skills and praying.

Beirus, funny you mentioned that...

But first, on to Grimeling news at 7.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I didn't even have to request them. The orcs just showed up and joined the Grimeling throng. They didn't last long. One of the dwarf merchant guards got pissed the newcomers were trying to killsteal and popped him. The rest of the orcs fled.

So I called two waves of dwarven siege, you know, for fun.

Turns out the dwarven siegers didn't like the merchants and killed them all. And the siegers, riding freaking war rhinos. And steelclad cragtooth boars.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They're having fun with the Grimeling for now. We'll see how long that lasts.

And Beirus, I cannot control who gets moods, but I can forbid items once a mood is obtained... I'm excited to see what you manage! Maybe something that can finally kill the grimeling!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It'll likely be good either way.

Muahahahahaha!

It couldn't have worked out better!

There is now a combat opportunity! Any and all comers welcome!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Free armor/weapons upgrades if desired after combat is cleaned up! (Obtained from loot, some conditions apply, void where prohibited.)

Best of all, I have the grimeling and roughly 30 dwarven units trapped under the bridge. In case of a bad siege or whatnot I can now pull up my drawbridge and release the grimeling/dwarves, whichever survives.

William is in. Sieges don't get solo dibs. Megabeasts can though.

The rest of you have through the weekend to respond.

Heydude, your ballista construction is in progress. Since the grimeling is trapped beneath our entrance bridge there is no chance of escape or actual danger. I have built the siege weapons as far from them as possible but there is still the chance that you'll freak upon seeing them.

Your hero has arrived and I've tentatively called him Arthur (Both warriors came as Uther).

Onod Itlud, your hero has also arrived and is now grouped with Ari who was equipped with that flintlock. Character sheets for the both of you have been updated. (As well as for Ari)

Beirus, William went forth to defend the city! He was able to attack four of the sieges before they fled but only killed one. Apparently your knuckledusters have little penetration capability against armored foes.

Armamix did, however, create a nice artifact for your use should you so choose. (Presumptuous of him to name it after himself though...)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Assuming heydude isn't able to kill the grimeling with siege weapons (I think it unlikely, to be honest) it shall remain under the bridge for the time being. Unruly visitors will be threatened to be thrown into the vine-ridden pit, to be slowly strangled and digested by said monster.
