Walls: My dwarves have vertigo.

JK.  No vertigo.

But seriously, in some of my other posts I've had some comments about double level walls, putting floors on top of a second story of walls.

So I'm building a wall outside.

I've build one row of nine spaces:   OOOOOOOOO
I've built an up/down stair by wall:            X

Now, if I stay on this level, I get a blocked notice when trying to build on top of the existing wall in any of the nine spots.
If I go up one z-level, I get a "no access to building material" error.

So, I need help figuring out how to get that second level of wall up there...AND a floor on top of that.

Thanks.

Build another staircase on top of the first one; otherwise your dorfs can't get there. Build a floor along the side after the staircase so you can reach the rest of your wall.

I think they have to be 2 tiles high and with a floor protruding, though I haven't tested

Like this:

__  <- this floor is so they can't climb onto your wall
O
O

If you do the same with a 1-story wall, I think they can jump and grab the ledge

Dwarves cannot use a single up/down stairs to get up a level. The level above the up/down stairs needs a down stairs.
