I got to have a lot of fun with the game, but it has some pretty big flaws. It seems to be suffering from a terrible case of identity crisis, at least it has been for the 13 levels I played it for. One moment you're playing a great strategy/action-rpg blend and then the next it forces you to put up with questing hubs with lame "kill 5 of these dudes you've previously been killing by the hundreds" quests and stupid fetch quests. I can see this getting toned down at later levels, but currently it keeps alternating between challenging large battles and standard tedous and unchallenging mmo drudgery. While the game can run on some pretty low machines, it doesn't really run well on most of them since the optimization is pretty poor and the graphics settings, aside from resoution options and vsync toggle are pretty much inexistant, all you have is a slider bar with 6 notches. There's also motion blur you simply can't disable. One major flaw I found, which will probably get outraged out of the game after we get our own version for a while is their "leadership" system, basically what other mmo's tend to call fatigue. It gets depleted every time you play one of those large battles and you get about 10 or so battles' worth of it before it runs out and you have to wait till the next real day for it to refill. When you're out of leadership you can still fight in battles, but you gain nothing, no loot, no experience, no rewards. The leadership system almost made me nope out and uninstall the game.
I will keep playing it for now, despite these pretty major flaws because it does have great gameplay, and the leadership point system will simply make me play all the classes at once, alternating between them as they run out of points. The game has great graphics, the combat is for the most part extremely fluid and fun and has a good amount of depth without being overly confusing either, large scale battles aren't as mindless as Dynasty Warriors's and things can actually be a serious threat. Between your character and your units there's a fair amount of customization.
Sorry for the block of text.
-TLDR-
Pros:
- Great graphics
- Great and fun gameplay(for large battles)
- Lots of options for customizing your character and army.
Cons:
- "leadership" fatigue system limiting the amount you can play on a single character per day
- Bad optimization
- Lack of meaningful graphics settings
- Boring MMO drudgery forced on you between large battle missions
- Only 3 classes at the moment
The max level is currently 30 and I managed to get my tits to lv13 before running out of leadership. I will be trying the other classes and explain how they work/play. I'd love to record some footage, but it kicks my already terrible game performance down to unplayable levels.
