Can you tweak specific jobs to be faster?
« on: August 22, 2014, 06:07:30 am »

Overall I'm fine with the game balance as it is, but I get fed up waiting for dorfs to get stuff from pile a into pile b in a timely fashion. Is it possible to make them faster just when they are doing hauling jobs? (bit of a long shot I think ;) )

I think the answer is AGILITY.

Default:

Code: [Select]
[PHYS_ATT_RANGE:AGILITY:150:600:800:900:1000:1100:1500]
Might try:

Code: [Select]
[PHYS_ATT_RANGE:AGILITY:5000:5000:5000:5000:5000:5000:5000]
Should be much faster at working jobs.

Pretty sure there's a tag you can to directly increase their walking speed. If you set it to 1 they go near light speed,  and at 0 they just telephone everywhere (as long as there is a valid path).

Though with killer trees I bet that doing this will result in 7 dead dwarves in record time. Like,  embarked next to a crocodile river fast.

It's GAIT see creature variation file in raw for its commentary about what values mean what.  :P

Lower numbers are faster.

Cool! I shall try that. I have just a touch of OCD tendencies on Dwarf Fortress (don't we all?) and it bothers me that I end up with everything lying around in the wrong place.

While I'm here, is it at all possible to mess with just one dwarf from your fortress and leave the rest along? That way I could have one superdwarf for hauling and the rest normal.

Not really (more of a DFHack thing), but you could make a new super-low pop caste and finagle the dwarf into transforming into it so they have one of the following benefits.
  • Higher Gaits
  • More easily raised attributes
  • Interaction increasing attribute or SPEED
If the third one you could just apply a syndrome to do the same thing (still requires finagling; ie boiling syndrome mat or burrowed food/drink).

Hm, have you considered murder?  It's either that or letting it go.

From what I can tell, it appears that SPEED is out for the new version.

The SPEED I refer to is the one that appears on interaction_example zombies and mummies (CE_SPEED_CHANGE:SPEED_PERC). Pretty sure that one still works (but only for base movement, which in turn affects actual gait movements).
