I'm thinking something like Worm Online, but Steampunk rather than Fantasy.

Anyone seen such a beast?  Everything in game made by players, with terraforming, and a steampunk theme?

Bonus points if there are zombies, and they can be harnessed for power.

Double Bonus Points if there is the option of PVP, and your dead enemies become zombies you can use to power your war machines.

I am having such fun imagining a world like this.  Tell me it exists somewhere!

The only Steampunk MMO I know of that meets even a few of those criteria, is Allods Online. No terraforming though.

Sounds like you want a not-fantasy necromancer simulator, from your description.

The only thing I know of that is even vaguely similar is Golemizer.
But that died a while back.

I haven't played since Rage of Mages, but aren't Allods firmly Fantasy?

There's a whole bunch of people on this forum who play (or used to) something called "Therian Saga". That game is all about crafting (there is combat, but it's, IMHO, boring and you can't really do much of it due to "potion toxicity" building up)

There was one in development that was very inspired by Puzzle Pirates and stuff, lots of crafting systems based on puzzles. Sadly, that came to an end when the main developer got in a bike accident and died AFAIK. Took months for the beta community to hear about that, it was real weird.

I am somewhat suspicious of an online-only game that doesn't ask for money at all.

Deepworld's legit. I play it on my iPad and it's fairly interesting. Main difference between it and all the other crafting/mining/killing games is that Deepworld has a jetpack.

Wurm Online is all about crafting.  You might give it a look.  There have been some significant graphics upgrades recently.

I stopped playing Wurm because Rolf went too far into god/fantasy land.  I really enjoyed the game as a dark medieval game with little magic.  Cross Steampunk and Worm though, and I'd play it

windows mac and iox but if u went to their website u would see that, i intially put 10 bucks in its kickstarter.  But now its free thats how they got the money, no microtransctions.  U can create youre own worlds, its not quite starbound but its feature complete but they continue to add post 1.0 content and updates
