No iron in siltstone?
« on: August 19, 2014, 08:39:23 am »

Hey all. Ive got 3ish layers of siltstone and absolutely cannot find iron in it, is there a chance it will contain none at all?

yup having the appropriate layer type(s) for an ore to appear does not mean that it will appear

Though iron ore is capable of being found in any type of sedimentary stone, it isn't guaranteed. In fact, it doesn't matter how many Z-levels you have - if they're all in the same geological region, they're part of the same layer and will contain the same ores, so if one Z-level doesn't have iron, then the rest likely won't have it either.
