3.6 acres is very small.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Wut?

This is ~4 acres:

In what universe are casual Bay12'ers stopping by every once in awhile possibly going to ever use that much land? That's several huge mansions-worth, plus enough garden area to feed like 20 people full time (depending on soil quality etc.)

Dwarf fortress in 50 words: You start with seven alcoholic, manic-depressive dwarves. You build a fortress in the wilderness where EVERYTHING tries to kill you, including your own dwarves. Usually, your chief imports are immigrants, beer, and optimism. Your chief exports are misery, limestone violins, forest fires, elf tallow soap, and carved kitten bone.

3.6 acres is very small.

For five people?

What were your expectations going into this? 3.6 acres is 156,816 square feet. Roughly 400x400 feet. Roughly 3 football fields.

How big is an acre?

It would be plenty of space even if all five were living there full time. For something several hours away that people only visit on weekends and for vacations, it's absolutely enough.

Agreed. Unless you're looking to completely retreat from society and hunt free-roaming elk to survive, 3.6 acres is plenty for the purposes of this thread. Even if you do want to retreat from society and have chickens and so forth, it would still be more than enough.

I know how big an acre is.
I agree three is plenty space-wise, but I was hoping for a stretch of uninhabited wilderness for a back garden.

Agreed.  I hope to retire on no less than 30 acres of woodland for just myself.  :D

52 acres for 10,000 http://www.landwatch.com/Matheson-Ontario-Canada-Land-for-sale/pid/200622391

Best deal I can find, but it's still an 8 hour drive north from where I live, and I'm the dot in southern Ontario.

It also has some big restrictions concerning construction and access.

Ah, yeah, I thought the aim was for some kind of more-or-less permanent living space. A camping ground is much more viable, much cheaper, and much less interesting :P

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Yeah, I must have missed that bit about the hunting camp at the bottom there.

Personally I'm holding out on buying a plot of land on Mars. If I have my way, we'll be terraforming it in a century or two, and I want in on that early.

If we are going by concentration, I would say either West-Central or Central-North Indiana, as either of those areas are at a point where we could include the Canadian Bay12 member that is in that area.

My best guess is that it got confused by the blank cell in the names column. If you add a ?, that should fix it. After that, give it ten minutes to update.
