Ghislaine chuckles once again, "Oh, it definitely isn't. I'm sure that even you would rather be in hell than face oblivion. Fear of death is something that is wired into most creatures after all. Besides, I honestly doubt that you would get into a heaven. The gods are rather picky with who they let into their little private clubs, whereas we demons are not."

The demongirl completely ignores Tom, not even bothering to give him a glance.

((Eh... What Empiricist said. Plus it's not like the demons really have an eternity of projects to occupy their souls too. So really, they're more of a status symbol than anything else.))

((Wait what? They actually do?  Huh, I presume it's more to do with the outsourcing and less to do with a bunch of slave souls making banners and picket lines in an attempt to get their masters to stop outsourcing all their jobs.

((Well, less 'Robots took our jobs!' and more 'I'm a demon with magic powers. I'm not going to wait for some slaves to build/make something that I want.' Though for mass production, yeah, souls would be used. Outfitting an entire legion of hell with the latest weaponry does not strike me as fun or enjoyable. Honestly I'd imagine that hell is a relatively nice place to be, simply because the demons have too many souls and they're all interchangeable to them. Except for the special/important souls, of course. So why bother spending all of the time and effort corralling the lesser ones around and controlling their lives when you can just let them roam free in a controlled environment and pull a few out whenever you need them? It's not like torturing souls is in the job description of being a demon. They've got other, more important things to do and worry about.))

((Fair point. I guess Hell can't be truly hellish, otherwise the demons themselves wouldn't want to live there. Souls are probably more useful as things that can have mana readily siphoned en masse to fuel spells than actual laborers anyway.))

"Hmmm. I thought he would stay around to annoy us more," Ghislaine muses out loud, obviously referring to Tom. The fact that he could probably hear what she said doesn't concern at all.
