Hey Dude! Where's my pick?

So I have two miners.  Started with two picks.  Just checked in stores and under weapons it shows 2 picks.

However, after digging to start my fortress, one of my two miners has taken to smelling the roses lately.  In checking his inventory, there is no pick showing.  How can I find it?  I don't recall any of my miners dropping a pick randomly before...

OK, so found it.  Guess he did drop it at random.  WTF?

How do I get him to claim it again?


*OK, so some searching this appears to be a random bug.  The pick was not forbidden, he just wouldn't pick it up.

Yes.  I had a ton of stuff queued to dig.  I have two miners.  Two picks.  One is mining his little heart out and the other is sniffing daisies.

Did he somehow lose his grasp ability? He wouldn't be able to hold the pick if his hands had nervous damage.

No military.  This was a new fortress, I was still excavating the initial areas to get inside.

Can he really reach that pick? Some mixup with ramps mayhaps? Set him to haul or some other job you currently need, and see if he moves around freely.

Hate to be the one to ask the obvious... but the mining labor is still enabled? Does he have woodcutting turned on?

Yes.  It's actually on the ground outside by the initial wagon spot along with other stuff not moved inside yet.

Probably this. Mining hunting and logging are mutually exclusive on account of all requiring a weapon.
