Have there been any updates to this game? Any improvements?

It is on sale right now for $16, so I'm debating picking it up.

Patch 8 rolled out on 19.July.  Witch Hunters warband is a new DLC, as are a couple of new characters available to hire.

It is a good game. 

There are some complaints about AI pathing and behavior, but there always will be in a complex 3d environment. 

There are some complaints about forced "Iron Man" mode, so if you need to be able to cheat at your games or savescum (as I usually do) this will either let you appreciate a new kind of play style, thrill, and emotional pressure -- or it will really piss you off and you wont have any fun.

Full Release Patch 8 Quick fix

With the latest patch, we reported two known issues that could possibly impact your playing experience.
We worked on solving them and fixing a few issues reported by the community.

The version of the game has been updated to 1.3.4.6.

Important Note
As we planned to do on last patch; if you had a combat save before the update it will be removed. Your Warband will be sent back to your hideout without any consequences. We apologize that it did not work in our previous patch.

Fixes
Greatly reduced (by 10 times) the delay of GUI appearance.
Fixed an issue that made Pyre of Righteous reappear on reload.
Fixed an issue where empty loot bags were showing up in place of out of action Warriors who left the battlefield.
Prevented some spells from being cast again on players when looting Wyrdstone (e.g. Deny the heretic).
Fixed message in daily report when a Librarian sends you gold instead of a formula (please note that it has not been localized yet and will display in English only).
Wild Swipe can now properly be used with an Ulrican Axe.
Deny the Heretic: the mastery version debuff now properly lasts the duration of the AoE zone.
Fixed an issue preventing the completion of campaign missions while using ranged weapons on destructibles.

How to help us
If you find any bugs or need some technical help, please refer to the thread "Issues launching or loading the game. Read this first!", and the appropriate forum for bugs reporting and technical issues, and do no post in general discussions. The general discussion forum is very hard for us to navigate as there is a lot of movement, so we only look at it briefly.

If you experience a game breaking bug, such as a crash to desktop, please make a post in the Bug report section, and also send your output log and a copy of your combat log, found in your Steam install directory:
- Steam\SteamApps\common\mordheim\mordheim_Data\output_log.txt
- Steam\SteamApps\common\mordheim\combat.log

Email these logs to logs at rogue-factor.com and we'll take a look at it. Please link your post/thread in your email so we can return to it. A DxDiag can also be helpful, and if you managed to take a screenshot that will also help quite a bit.

I loved the campaign system... you really feel like you're managing a warband and trying to make ends meet, and you get attached to characters, especially when they start losing limbs.

But then the combat itself was just... meh? It quickly devolves into a gigantic melee, and then keep pressing buttons until at some point you win or they win. Dice dice dice. Never did feel like there was much in the way of interesting tactical decisions. Then again, haven't played for a few patches, but I don't see how they could've revamped the game enough for that to have become different.

The big issue for me remains how it feels like they took what was a pretty deadly combat system in the tabletop version, where any one hit could be the end of a character, and turned it into a D&D style death-by-a-thousand-cuts system, especially at higher levels. The fact that almost nothing will fall to a single shot, and precious little to a couple, is why you end up with scrums rather than fast, deadly clashes.

Yeah it isn't the most enjoyable combat. But there's moments of tactical goodness.

The time is nigh! The Undead are making their way to Mordheim: City of the Damned and will arrive towards the end of October. They want their share -in other words, ALL- of the Wyrdstone, all the while spreading destruction and ruin.

We will be publishing daily posts presenting each individual warrior composing the Warband, detailing their gameplay, and including screenshots in action.
Today, we will give you a glimpse of the Warband with background information, the warrior line-up, and images of their wagon and other valuables.
The story

The vassals of Count Vlad von Carstein include both the living and the undead, for the vampire lord knows the utility of mortals and the weaknesses of his own kind. Whether living or dead, all are his servants, sworn to the Master's will.
While the courts of Altdorf, Middenheim and Marienburg all squabble over the Emperor's crown, few suspect that the tyrant of Sylvania has his own designs. The Warbands who have journeyed to Mordheim are sent to gather Wyrdstone that the dark magic bound into the shards can be harnessed and used to create more undead. They are both cunning and ruthless, for any foe that falls to their blades may rise again to serve Sylvania.

About damn time. If I'm honest I'm surprised at the post release activity. Sure it's paid DLC but I was thinking the game didn't do well enough to justify it. I figured Rogue Factor would have moved on to something else.

Haven't felt the urge to play the game in a while but I may have to buy the Undead Warband just to show my support.

Paying money for specific heroes was.. iffy, but they at least released the Witch Hunters warband.

Sorry for the necro, but I have a question for my forum friends:

If you have tried the DLC factions, then how different are they?
It's not about money, - it's more about being worth it in time.
I.e. are there new tactics and mechanics to play with, or is it 'only' flavour and story missions.

I've just started to play this game seriously, as my former computer wasn't really strong enough. My new gaming laptop is, and I quite like running my warband now.
I almost gave up in rage, but finally cracked the code for the gameplay when I understood that this is not Xcom.
When I rushed forward to kill the opponent, then I might win the battle but always lost the war.
Then I started to actually play like a group of scum looting voidstones and taking out enemies as needed, and it has been good since.
(This is partly due to the limited AI that will move forward, and since it's commander and heroes are generally faster, then the first encounter will often be with them. Due to the morale system killing them might win the battle, so it seems important to have collected enough before that to pay the runnning costs. Hanging back and collecting as much as possible has the added benefit of letting the enemy elite be futher seperated from the henchmen).

Generally my winning strategy was: forget the wyrdstone and/or objectives, bait one of the AI to rush you, then wait with the rest of your warband and pick them off one at a time as they come in. Trying to fight three separate and unequal battles was usually a recipe for losing a guy; mostly because the AI gets more HP and everything else than you do.

Speaking of which, is the Necromancer able to bring back the dead?

I can't speak to the Necromancer. But I will say my fandom is what carried me through Mordheim. If I had bought it knowing nothing about the setting, I'd probably have judged it much harsher.

It gets discounted pretty deeply when there are sales.

I really like Mordheim but I have a recurring crash bug that makes it impossible to load save games. :(

I'm a tabletop veteran and I was really disappointed with the game. Basically the HP system, artificial difficulty through cheating AI and forced ironman mode are a combination that rubs me the wrong way. For me, the game was driven in the wrong direction by a toxic "git gud nub"-crowd during EA and the desire to become a tactical Dark Souls while failing to catch the essence of that experience. (This coming from a guy who enjoys Darkest Dungeon which sort of does the same thing but actually succeeds in it.)

Still, this is just my personal opinion - just wanted to point out that you can be a grognard who enjoyed tabletop Mordheim and still dislike the game. If you are on the fence, can't you buy the game and test it, then get a refund if you don't like it? I'm not sure if the bad sides become apparent within a couple of hours, tho.

PST! the secret of Dark Souls is that it is a very fair game... Well mostly... kind of...

Well the combat is fair... Brutal but fair.

Which is the difference between Mordheim and Dark Souls.

You can't just make a game brutally difficult and expect it to be good, there is an art to difficulty.
