They could add a "classic" mode that uses the tabletop rules. Kinda like what got done with bloodbowl. That would probably capture more potential customers, since a large chunk of people who are interested in this game come from people who know the tabletop in a way or another.

EA is up for grabs over at Steam.

I was very confused for a second as to why a studio was being sold via steam...

I know, right. Giant sell-outs. Grandma's gonna be up there soon, too.

In all seriousness, looking forward to hearing Bay12's opinion on this. I've been itching for games with persistence between play sessions, but both Blood Bowl and Battletech sessions take a tad too long...

I also eagerly await the review of some poor bastard brave soul on this. $40 feels a bit steep even though I'd put this game at AAA quality levels. And I guess I haven't actually thought about what price I'd like yet.

I've got the game, since I'm a fool. If someone wants to test the game against me, and maybe chat it up on Raidcall or something, I'm here for the next... 16 hours?

To write a short comment on what I discovered playing it last night: you move with WASD, and you've got a certain range within which to move freely, with some expanding or further-out circles reflecting sprinting. You then get to act within that circle. The map looks a bit hard to grasp: you're either bound to third person or you're looking at it top-down with no way of angling the camera. The game looks pretty and atmospheric, and I think it has the potential for interesting multiplayer campaigns.

EDIT: This is the third time the game's gotten stuck on waiting for the AI to do its turn. It's to be expected, bugs, and I'm sure it wouldn't be so terrible in MP (even at this phase).

Yeah, I kind of got that from the gameplay video. I mean, sure, give the 3rd person view to people who want it, but I want to be able to figure the map out so I can strategise, and having to roam around at ground level really isn't conducive to that.

Hopefully they'll eventually implement some other controls! Top-down is a step in the right direction already.

Can the camera free roam or is it locked to the active character?

Whilst this looks like the best implementation of 'real time in a turn based game'; it seems needlessly confusing, and I can imagine issues with wanting to be right on the edge of the circle and accidentally moving to the next one and similar issues.

I just don't see the need for it when a usual point-and-click turn based system would be better, the rest of the game looked great though.

I did see in the gameplay video the empire player hugging the edges of walls to stay within the move circle.

Yeah, I just think that kinda thing will become tedious after a while, especially if you're playing multiplayer and the other player is just edging around everywhere trying to get into the absolute optimum spot.. I just can't see it adding anything at all to gameplay, and just causes the player to mess about for ages.

From what i saw moving back over the move circle gave you the move point back.

Looked that way to me as well (0:40 to 0:48 of the gameplay video). If you take a special movement action like climbing a ladder, though, you can't 'go back'.

You can get time back by moving closer to the circle's center, that is, were your character started the turn at.
