I'll be happy to be wrong if the reviews say it's one of those nearly done games that does EA for a little while first.

Weirdly, I think Turn Based Tactics games (if it is - which I really hope it is!) are one of the things where Early Access would be the most useful (if they actually use input from gamers) as the balance is always so tricky to get right.
A lot of turn based games always seem to miss a number of obvious things which could have been ironed out by early, wider (as wide as possible) play testing.

Still, if they start doing anything real time I'll probably not be so keen...

TBH, I'm still genuinely confused at the format this game is taking. News articles and interviews have done little to paint an accurate picture of what it looks like.

Agreed. I think this either means one of two things:
Either, (and most worryingly) that might mean that they haven't quite fixed on their 'vision' for the game yet - which is always bad news. Things like this ALWAYS fail if they try to juggle a number of ideas which aren't fully formed in the hope that one bit of it works.

Or, if that's not the case (and I really hope it isn't) then their vision might be very much like the tabletop, and therefore they feel they don't need to explain further (even though they probably do).

They've said a number of times that their game diverges from table top in several places. That alone kinda cooled my heels for the game a little, as what I really wanted was a straight adaptation. Still, I'll be interested to watch some actual gameplay videos.

I see what they meant by partial real time now. An interesting decision on how to move and position the units, altough its really just a perspective change. I guess this system allows you to control unit movement better rather then relying on some faulty pathing algorithm (like a certain WW2 turn based game). Im interested in seeing how campaigns will progress tho. Hopefuly they'll add a random non plot driven campaign generator with randomly generated maps and missions.

I have to say, this game is actually looking quite interesting. When I heard Real-Time/Turn-based. I was kinda thinking real-time with pause like Baulders gate etc. I like this better.

Yeah, it does look pretty sweet and makes a lot more sense now that I've seen it. Really saying it's real-time was totally unncessary, it confused everyone and the game isn't really real-time.

I love how gnarly and detailed the levels are. You can actually enter buildings, climb the stairs, ect... there's checks for the jumping, leaping and climbing, something I'd totally forgotten about.

Getting excited for this. Still don't know if I'll jump into Early Access or not.

I'll likely only have 2 or 3 warbands and some maps (or even a test version of their random map generator), but it looks complete enough to have fun with. If there aren't massive problems with performance issues, I might get into early access. I really do need to get a better pc tho :v

Watching the trailer, I'd love a seamless after-action playback mode. It's a bit jarring to see the third person movement while the world stands still.

I kinda wish the "wound roll" was still in. That's what led to some of the biggest upsets in Mordheim, is that guy with no wounds who just won't die. I assume that's the reason they took it out. Still, missing attacks and dodges seem like a poor replacement. As one friend I showed this to said "It seems really lethal. Like, you're either dead or you're not." What's to stop the game from being two teams dogpiling each other in close combat? I know when I played Mordheim, I'd tend to spread my forces out and focus on recovering Warpstone rather than taking down the enemy warband. The video implies the game is more of a grudge match.

I think wound rolls are kinda still in though. There was that warlock that walked on a pegleg due to getting wounded before. If they get knocked out during the battle, it rolls after the fight to see if they get a wound, recover, or die. I could be wrong, but this wouldn't be the first time they improperly conveyed info to potential customers tho. Like how they said it would be party real time, which isn't really the case. They probably didn't add any other objectives to that match because they wanted to demonstrate a bit of how combat works.

That's the after action wound roll. I'm talking about the roll you'd make in the table top, when you've got no more wounds left and you take an additional one. There's a chance that next wound does nothing, incapacitates you, or totally takes you out of the action. (Leading to the after action wound roll.)

This is more just a standard HP pool, where guys are hitting for 50 to 70% of your life in one hit. It's not a huge complaint and I can see the mechanical reasons for it. It's just one of those rules that Mordheim stand out, for good and bad reasons.
