I wonder if they're going to be using a fan-based ruleset, because from my memory the base rules of Mordheim had some balance issues with things like leather armour and shields being useless. Unless Games Workshop updated the rules sometime to fix those.

My guess is that they are going to just outright change the rules altogether.

By the way is Scaven Good?

Skaven are evil rat men who live in an underground empire run by slaves, mutation, backstabbing, warpstone abuse and massive overpopulation. As for Mordheim, I believe in the tabletop their warbands usually consist of large numbers of slaves all equipped with slings and nothing else.

Skaven are ratmen who lurk underground and come up to the surface to raid, massacre, plunder, take slaves, and eat babies. They rely on sheer force of numbers and, in the Fantasy Battles game, are the only race that allows you to shoot into a melee containing your own units because their lives are basically worthless.

Sound Good to you?

Well I mean effectiveness.

Since I remember people telling me that the Skaven tend to suck in whatever game they are put in because their "superior numbers" mechanic never pays out... (mostly about Bloodbowl)

But I never asked an expert

Yet... >_> I kind of want to play the Skaven >_>

Eh, in Bloodbowl they're tactics are their really fast units more than numbers. They do have cheaper units but the main tactic I know of is grab the ball and run the entire field in about 2 turns.

With Skaven, you will lose units, that is a given and you should not care. I had a battle with mine where I outnumbered a High Elf team 46 units to my 130. Ended up with a mountain of dead but was still a close battle.

They're rather a silly race. Very unpredictable, stuff explodes, you're units are worthless and cowardly but when you can destroy your opponents best unit with one very well placed special item it makes it all worthwhile.

As I mentioned, if I remember Mordheim they do focus on slaves/nightrunners armed with slings (On the tabletop this is, mind you). Easy to buy and replace and no money spent on armour or magic items.

I am glad, since the Skaven are the ones I am most interested in playing.

The Undead are the ones I am most interested in playing in normal Bloodbowl (which I never played).

Skaven definitely do not suck in Blood Bowl. Whether they will be viable in this game or not is well beyond my expertise.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

In my recollection of Mordheim, Skaven are pretty good.

High mobility is a huge plus in Mordheim, at least on the table top. You laugh at slings, but remember that starting out, everyone is equipped like shit so their armor saves are not good. Slings are cheap, so you can buy a lot of them, Skaven get decent BS, and at half range they can fire twice. I've forced a couple bottle tests with just a massed sling volley.

And that's not including the preference for agility skills and poison weapons wielded in the tail.

Skaven are always good, if you know how to play them. Straight up fights with any except your most badass, hardened killer are a waste. Hit and run, ranged tactics, outmanuevering, yadda yadda yadda....

I played a long campaign of mordheim and let me tell you: skaven are not bad, they are OP.

Plainly put, in mordheim most things will shoot and only hit on a 6 or a "7": meaning roll a 6 first, and a 4+ on another die to make it 7.

Everyone gets a leader, a mage, a melee dude or two and some cheap henchmen who die a lot but may get better.

Skaven do too, only their henchmen are numerous and armed with slings, the cheapest ranged weapon and also one of the best: relatively long range given the scale of the game and yet capable of firing two shots at short range.

What this functionally means is your skaven slaves are mvps: firing a lot more shots and thus increasing your chances of rolling a 6 and getting a hit, which in Mordheim can easily mean the death of that model (indeed it means this fully a third of the time, before extra circumstances like falling from high places after being wounded)

Skaven are awesome in TT Mordheim. More heroes so you get more exploration rolls, those heroes can be made cheap, but they can level-up and be tooled up into pretty awesome killing machines, cheap as hell slaves, 2xdagger slaves, slings on everyone, a cool spell lore, more movement, not-terrible normal troops, a normal (ie: overpriced at the start) big guy.

They have no real downside other than a slight lack of armour (which virtually no-one buys anyway). So all good, almost no bad, very OP.

Seeing as how I'm only now hearing about Mordheim in any form, I hope they can make it a good videogame in the spirit of the original TT without being constricted by it.
I'm really liking the general descriptions I'm reading over at RPS, but then hype is easy. Hopefully they'll make something out of this in the next 2-4 years.
