I was thinking on making the mecha modular: you get a base unit, and a budget, which you can either spend on bigger generators, better armor or weapons, or special ability type stuff.

Then it isn't worth it. Seriously, rather than just forcibly shipping, you could just let people naturally form relations. If you really want some sort of pair system, then you could just use some kind of tag-team system.

Besides, it doesn't have to be for shipping. The only pilots in a relationship in the movie were the people who piloted best Jaeger Cherno Alpha. Other than that, there was the triplets, the father and son pair, and the two close friends (which I'm glad they went for because the romantic relationship bond thing in movies is so played out))

Since both those things from what little I know from other people and brief searches are supernatural entities that manifest from something related to their user. Except the former are named after mythological figures and use classical elements, whilst the latter are named after things from the modern music industry and have more unconventional abilities.

The difference is that someone can acquire someone else's Stand, people can have more than one Stand (although this is more like Wild Cards or the characters from the first two Persona games), Personae evolve under certain conditions to entirely different forms and so on.

Oh, and I don't know JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as much as Persona. Hence why I prefer the latter. That and I'd have to go the trouble of including Pillar Men and crap.

Hmm... for some reason that, in conjunction with that paired pilot concept earlier gave me a really odd idea for an RPG or SG. Basically, it consists of a similar premise: being able to summon some sort of supernatural entity. Only issue is here, it only consists of a humanoid vessel, like a set of platemail, or mummy wrappings, or some combination thereof. The actual abilities and behavior vary wildly, due to the fact that any eldritch entity could get lodged inside it.

Effectively, it's a very dangerous combat unit, except users must figure out how the hell their vessel's current ability works as well as preventing it from making incomprehensible conclusions that result in collateral damage. Then, link it's activation involuntarily to anxiety, stress, agitation, etc. So whilst it will automatically appear to defend the user, the user also has to worry about how if they get too nervous on a date, Azathoth might pop in, sequestrated in the form of a robotic luchadore-mask wearing mummy knight based off of King Arthur and offer 'relationship advice'.
