Nope, he's already been in one of the gaiden games, albeit an older version of him, with more control. don't want to have him end up shooting himself. that would be weird.

Eh, him appearing in one of the gaiden games would still be rather amusing/sensical. Or at least I like the idea more than the alternate universe thing. It just doesn't fit well with the cosmology.

How about a dice-pool system where statistics represent a unit's current input limit for a certain system? Effectively, a unit would produce a certain amount of energy each turn and is able to store or distribute that energy as it sees fit. The result is that they would be able to adapt their rolls and whatnot to a degree. Furthermore, it would be possible to overload a system, effectively allowing a unit to dump as much power as they want to a system at the cost of damaging themselves and likely jeopardizing the system's integrity (for example, shoving all power in movement and power to enhance a punch, causing impaired movement due to circuits burning out whilst blowing off it's own arm and causing some hull damage from the reaction force.)

The system I am basing this off of is Piecewise's Perplexicon system, albeit with a shared pool to take advantage of the mechanical nature of the units. I suppose maximum power storage and recharge rate, should they be incorporated as statistics, would be the only real 'fixed' values. Weapons could probably benefit in some way from power input as well, or just act as secondary generators, like a Tory-IIC mace.

Wait, you mentioned something about pairs controlling a single unit, how exactly would that work? I mean, mechanically. Do the people just control half the unit, with the end result being a writhing mass of mechanical murder having what appears to be a seizure on top of the enemy (I am presuming that mecha are used due to enemies being more vulnerable to melee, otherwise the game would just consist of artillery raining shells down on distant foes)? It's rather difficult to represent it without making it likely that one player will pretty much dominate the other. Really, I don't see much of a point for having pairs operating the same unit.
