Such as having the ability to deploy some sort of eldritch phantasm or okuri-inu that approaches when someone doesn't look, so they have to balance between keeping it at bay and not getting hit by other incoming attacks.

Not that much after the first time and they figure that running headfirst into the first enemy ends it quite early. Horror is quite subjective after all. Plus I would imagine that suspension of disbelief is rather difficult when the people know that everything they see are just a bunch of arcane illusions.

You people realize instant kill shit is fine as long as it affects mooks and whatnot, and affects bosses, mini-bosses, and other players differently?

Issue is, it isn't a person's phobia targeted at them (which would make far more sense), it's just a random horror game which would have a few issues including effects on non-human entities. I don't think the prospect of getting shoved into a suit full of crossbeams on something such as say, Ichabod, would be too effective.

My argument is not about the use of fear, but rather the idea of randomly trapping people in replicas of random horror games.

Well yeah, Empiricist. Not everything will be equally effective on everyone, not least because there'll be some bosses who are just plain immune to powers like that. Sucks to be you. Get over it. Sometimes you have to try and help in other ways and be creative. Or just get busy trying not to die. Fear is unlikely to work on an AI. Or anything that's literally mindless. Might confuse 'em pretty bad, but not the same.
