Eh, more like a 20% chance, but yeah, he could have survived if he didn't take it...It's just a lot less likely.

Was the place "he" was at the beginning of the story a typical place for a modern Western person to be (like a cafe, or an office, but not the middle of the jungle or an Ukrainian pig farm)
