Work has been more focused on Sub Rosa since that's more popular. The update for A New Zero is going to feature ground combat and stuff, and who knows how long that will take to make.
And Breed.
I think I played a demo for this years ago, but how would someone actually get their hands on the game?

I suggest Zombie Master. The link explains it better than I can. It's free, too, so long as you have a Source game.

How about free games? People are always yammerin' about Warzone 2100, but we never get a game going usually. There's also openra, which now supports Dune, RA, Basic CnC, and Tiberium Dawn.

Didn't much like OpenRA, but that's probably because I played lots of Red Alert II years ago, and OpenRA feels so primitive by comparison.

Well it does do the games earlier in the series than RA2 and Tiberium Sun.

Runescape circa 2002-06 was the game of my youth and there's apparently a way (not Jagex approved obviously) to run a private server. The problem is Runescape isn't a very great multiplayer experience, just a single player game coinhabited by other players for the most part. And it can take years to get far enough along to do the cool stuff, or maybe I just sucked at Runescape.

Anyway, dead or dying games that I have include:

Quake 2
Jedi Knight (Dark Forces 2, Outcast and Academy)
Command and Conquer: The First Decade
Star Trek Bridge Commander
Deus Ex (it does have multiplayer... for some reason)
Battle for Middle Earth
Diablo
Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront 2

Idk but I could see this becoming a YouTube series.

Oh god. RuneScape. That's all I played in elementary school. That would've been 03-06 or 07. Oh man, those were the days.

I wasn't a big fan of Battle for Middle Earth. Cavalry felt OP with the ability to infinitely stunlock any foot army, and the computer never builds its own cavalry in large numbers. I much better liked the War of the Ring demo, although I didn't end up buying it and still haven't.

To avoid a derail I'll go ahead and count the original Halo as dead. There's only something like two or three rooms that actually have players at any one moment.

I tried the original Deus Ex's multiplayer, and it appeared to consist of bunny-hopping snipers.

Now you know what was pretty awesome? Aliens vs Predators: Gold. With 3 or more players, of course. It wasn't good with only 2, and 4 or more was ideal. It was best with an alien or aliens stalking a squad of marines, with potentially a predator thrown into the mix if there are a lot of players. (Definitely not equal numbers of each)

I think the Nostromo level was the one that had a bunch of dark caves, which was great. There was also another with buildings and a subway, which was pretty good too.

This appears to be an updated exe, but I haven't tried it yet. http://homepage.eircom.net/~duncandsl/avp/

Some good free ones:
Starsiege:Tribes or Tribes 2 both still have public servers we could use, but very few players.
Legions Overdrive is an old Tribes clone from Instant Action, but it does play significantly differently.

Begin TCP/IP: A Tactical Starship Simulation is a multiplayer modification of the old Begin games (actually disassembled and rewritten in assembly).

No, there are usually at least three-four hundred players on.  Unless Gamespy finally went down in the last week or so, in which case we can't play it anyway.

Jagex is currently running like 30 servers running the august 2007 version of the game, with polls on additions. Seems pretty populated.

Aren't those only for paying members who had active accounts then though?
