What do you want in the next version?
« on: August 16, 2014, 03:13:43 pm »

I swear there was a topic about this, but I can't find it anywhere.

I really want adventure mode and fortress mode to add features from each other. I'd like to hear what the migrants are saying to my dwarves in the meeting hall. I'd like to be a medic in adventure mode, cleaning up after sieges performed by AI against AI.

Perhaps the simplest thing I want is to be able to harvest crops in adventure mode. Currently, you can only pick the parts of the plants that are inedible, like leaves and flowers. Trying to survive in the wild without trading or stealing food pretty much requires you to be a carnivore at all times.

On that note, I'd also like to see dwarves picking fruit from trees in fortress mode. Dwarves are short, so I'd imagine they'd climb the trees and pick the fruit while balancing on branches, possibly supplying fun

More adventure mode crafting, animal taming, and construction (would really love to play a dwarven crossbow ranger with pet wolves living in a cabin in the woods with a secret underground bunker :P)

For Fortress mode, I dunno, maybe hiring mercenaries from caravans that visit from other civs.

Not going to happen, but some kind of solution to the inevitable FPS death of a fortress. Now that the world is alive it's heart wrenching not being able to play with the same dwarves for centuries. I'd also like birds not to be borked. Oh, and player mounts, in both modes.

BUG 7161 FIXED

I know it's not a single line of code to fix, but it feels kinda sad that adventure mode turned out significantly less playable (IMHO) after the big world activation release.

booze being actually potential flammable hazard and having a proofing system so that high proof boozes are a fire hazard while low proof ones are not.

Booze is and has always been highly flammable in-game.

Some kind of site recognition for adventure mode. I want to dig up rocks and build houses and so on.
Better AI. It'd be fantastic to see people behave in an at least fairly believable manner.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

If you are referring to 0.40.10, I’d probably go for seasonal variation depending on hemisphere as one of the features (Granite is early spring in the northern hemisphere, but early autumn in the southern hemisphere).

Given current events, I've altered my profile pic and I'm sorry it took so long to fix. If you find the old one on any of my accounts elsewhere on the internet, let me know by message (along with the specific site) and I'll fix. Can't link the revised avatar for some reason.

no it just boils away harmlessly currently what i want is for it to catch on fire and become fire hazard.

I'd like to see a few things..

1) Random groups of NPC running into my fortress (and maybe staying there as guests).
Since the world is now .."alive".. people should be travelling around.

2) Siege with siege engines.
Why not? Catapults, ballistas, siege Towers...

You can make a pre-emptive sortie trying to disrupt enemy operations or try to survive under a constant barrage of stones, wood and dead animals..
With the morale/discipline system, a siege with dead animal as projectile would cause a BIG MESS of most fortresses (miasma, scared dwarves who won't haul corpses...).

3) The implementation in the game of the DFHack Plugin that make it possible to put down furniture/walls/doors etc.. without having already produced them.
A kind of "planning feature" that I used a lot in 0.34.11 since I tend to play without cave-ins and I like BIG underground fortresses.

EDIT

Sorry, last one:

4) Simplified materials
A way to simplify materials (pecan wood, apricot wood, oak.. etc.. -> wood / cat leather, dog leather etc.. -> leather / non-economical stones -> rock) without having to resort to a mod.

This would help me a LOT (and a lot of other players too) with FPS Death in forts (sadly, my rig is around 4y old and I cannot afford an upgrade for at least another 1-2y).
