Really bubbly J-pop. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, the Haruhi Suzumiya soundtracks, Götterdämmerung - that sort of thing.

Nice one, not sure when I'll be feeling like killing a baby but these things are good to know.
This is why we can't have nice things... someone will just wind up filling it with corpses.

I listen to irish reels and jigs during play, catered for each individual season in soundsense.

I figured what better music to put to dwarves then the music of the drunken and violent :D

I've lately listened to the Banner Saga OST. I usually put this playlist on shuffle.

Depends on my mood, whats going on, and where I am.

I have a separate playlist for Fortress mode, Adventure mode, and Fortress Sieges.

For Fort mode, typically ambient music from video games and movies, depending on the state of my fortress. Regal stuff if my fortress is a thriving metropolis crawling with nobles, Shire theme if I just started out, probably RPG fight music if there's a siege or ambush going on.

For Adventurer mode, it's typically completely insane stuff, like the Super Mario 64 theme for murderous rampages, or Homeward Bound from Monty Python and the Holy Grail if I'm fast travelling (which I imagine to be your adventurer galloping around like the knights in the movie, because that's dorfy.)

Classical music, 20th mostly. Minimalists such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08L53I2GIo8 . Gives you a rush and fits well with the sense of chaos of a Dwarf Fortress.

When I'm in the middle of a good session of Dwarf Fortress, I enjoy listening to the soundtracks of La-Mulana, Transistor, Dungeons of Dredmor, and Monaco. I put all of these soundtracks in one playlist and set it to shuffle.  RNG gives me so many fitting songs for many situations, and sometimes even predicts the future.  Always the bad future, though, as ominous music always begins to play during or before terrible things happen...

Darn you, I'll be listening to it for a while too now :/ Lucky enough this other song's stuck in my head. I just feel it fits DF really well.

Either the in-game music (which is quite soothing), or something like this --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dr-xcyLqC8

"Over the Misty Mountains Cold" (the 8 minute one on youtube) and the slower songs by Opeth and Metallica
