0000895: Items disappear (become invisible) after getting pushed by flowing water, burning in magma, or encased in ice

This... means... something!

So does that mean that Items just disappear from the game altogether when these sorts of things happen?? Or is it as I suspect, and Dwarves will stop trying to fetch things from un-fetchable places?

The bug was that they would become invisible, but were still there.

I believe that this bug will make items pushed by water / magma / ice, disappear and are only visible in the inventory lists and can only be recovered by designating them for dumping. Sometimes this bug would also push items into walls making them impossible to pick up creating hauling cancellation spam that the item is unreachable.

Looks like its fixed in the next version so we can make complicated aquaducts for item collection and intruder management : )

Yep, great news.  Now I've got another reason to rebuild the automated magma hallway, my items won't be lost in limbo!

When I first read this I was all "Next little bug fixed. Good one for Toady". But after reading replays in this thread..."YES YES YES!"

- Toilet traps (flush thy enemy)
- Ice encasement traps
- Overly complex system to wash the surface of corpses and loot

So if dwarven manure and special furniture to do the deed in are implemented, there is already a workable waste management system?

Was this bug also what caused swimmy creatures to be able to ignore fortifications that were underwater?

Right, I always thought tantrum spirals were an intended mechanism to force you to care for your dwarve's feelings.

What exactly does that one do?

Also, he fixed the problem with large gems and other gem based stuff not being stored in finished gem stockpiles,

I hope he gets around to the problems of worn clothing accumulating and not reliably being put in the refuse pile instead of the finished goods pile since that is one of my 'favorite' bugs and a major pet peeve.

It's a nice feature for those of us who mod civilizations and who aren't super careful about our spelling.

I'm most happy about "Marked dwarves as "New Arrival" on unit/job screen instead of 'No Job' while they are new".
