A strange sight, but it makes sense.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I was ambushed in the middle of the night by a night creature (go figure) named Urist McWereCreature's Spouse, it absolutely slaughtered my party, not me though.

It promptly ?jumped? up one tile and hovered there, then I would whip it's legs and it would come down a z level, then ?jump? back up.

I killed it and found a tiny cave nearby, which was barren except a little kid who was crying and spit at me for no reason, the kid is human and he wont tell me about his parents, but one of his cousins is a were-lizard, the boy himself is a flashing red "1" and spits at me constantly.

What i am wondering is would killing him be morally (or legally) reprehensible, and is his definitely a night creature?

The night creature that killed your party probably had wings and could fly, so it looked like it was jumping.

The child is probably a werecreature in its human form.

The flashing "1" means that he is speaking to you, with a non-flashing "1" meaning he's talking to someone else. And he's probably a werecreature. I'd gut him, just to be safe.

Probably spitting at you because you killed the other werecreature who was a relative. Did the spitting only start after you told him about it?

But yeah you should kill him anyway. It's unlikely that he belongs to a civilisation so nobody will care.
