K&M is more or less Settlers meets Total War meets your game really.
it's everything but a classical RTS since it has somewhat leangthy production chains and all.
You should check it out since it's everything but a classic RTS.
The best description would be Settlers 2.5 because it mixes the mechanics of settlers 1-2 with setlers 3-4 with its own twist in that EVERYONE has to eat.
Every single serf goes to the inn to get some grub... and of course the inn has to be well supplied to feed anyone.
Also soldiers don't go to the inn, instead you have to order helpers to carry them food instead... and that most likely will paralyze the economy and wreck the formation of troops making them easy to attack at that point.
All in all it's everything but a classic RTS because fielding large armies as fast as you can is not a good idea untill you are ready to commit into an attack.

All in all it's a pretty fun twist on the settlers every settlers fan should try...

Sonlirain I just meant classical rts as in I make warrior units and directly move them around on the map killing stuff versus games that have more passive / indirect control.
And either way I am definitely not hating on classical rts games anyway, one of my all time most played games is Men of war so. :P
K&M Sounds pretty fun, and like I said it's already on my list so I'll definitely check it out. :) Thanks for the summary.

Well you can move warrior units around but they require a rather long production chain to get equipement for them... and they eat so most of the time you don't have an army at all because it's just impractical. Anyway i hope you'll like it because it's a fun game and might just have some (hopefully positive) effect on your project.
And of course good luck working on your game of course :P

Hmm, played it a bit without any clue on what to do. Seems fun, though. One problem. How do I get stone and wood?

New version just released! It includes a new infinite challenge mode at the end for those that think the current one is too easy. :D

BlitzDungeoneer hi again! Thanks for trying it out. And ya I understand it can be a bit non-intuitive. Should be better now though with the new version we just released. It includes some very basic "tutorial" things to get you started.

Getting stone and wood, you have to build a forester or a stonecutter and then assign a villager to work there. And the building has to be reasonably close to the resource you want to harvest.
And you have to connect the building with roads for the villagers to reach them.

Good luck if you decide to give it another go!

I gave it a shot. I built the stone hut close to snow because I thought it was like a rock quarry but there were rocks close enough that it was okay.

Eventually I built all the buildings and some archer towers but I had no idea what my helper minions did so they kind of just watched the attack.

Game pros:
Art direction
Auto villagers

Cons:
No attachment to your villagers
No click and drag
Missing tool tips

It is worth a gander now but there isn't much to do. It will be sweet in a few versions.

Fikes hi! Thanks for trying it out and giving some feedback.

Eventually I built all the buildings and some archer towers but I had no idea what my helper minions did so they kind of just watched the attack.

The two shamans can morph into animal forms. In animal form they provide auras which buff nearby creatures. It's either fox form or bear form at the moment.

You will be able to pick your own elder at the start of the game in the future to fit your personal playing style. Let's say I wanna focus on keeping our industry going smoothly and you might be more interested in the fighting then we would pick different elders with different skills.
An example of another character with other skills is:

Game pros:
Art direction
Auto villagers

:)

Cons:
No attachment to your villagers

Ya we want the villagers to have some personality later in the game. And we designed one of our stretch goals completely around just that. Like a portrait, traits and emotes of what they're feeling. :)

No click and drag

I will implement this very soon.

Missing tool tips

Ya there is A LOT of information left to present to the player. I guess you  noticed you can select a few more things than you can get info about? We want you to be able to inspect the stuff around you and get at least a little bit of info about it in the info window.

That along with a lot of icons and arrows explaining what is going on at the moment. Like select a workshop and it should show you who works there, where that person is, where the goods will be delivered, if the input materials are missing, if the connected storehouse is full and so on...

It's simply a matter of us doing the vital stuff first, then do all the stuff that makes it better. So expect a lot more on that front in the future.

It is worth a gander now but there isn't much to do. It will be sweet in a few versions.

Thanks, let's hope so!

I kind of figured that my complaints were "we haven't had time for that" type issues rather than "We didn't think of that!" For instance it would be nice to click on a rock and have it tell you how much stone it had. I am sure that is coming soon.

I guess right now it is a little hard to tell exactly what the goal of the game is. Are you eventually going to be able to do research or advance your civilization or is it more like a tower defense with a little management thrown in?

Finally, I am not really sure at all what the other play would be doing if we were playing co-op. I was not busy enough to need help.
