Caravaneer 2 is released in beta! Post Apoc Trading Sim/RPG
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:15:15 pm »

http://www.gamesofhonor.com/caravaneer-2

Sequel to the quite good Caravaneer 1, but much better fleshed out in almost every regard. (Except the writing. The writing has not gotten better.)

Its a post apoc game, where you do trading with turn based combat. There a story line, that is very very fragile.

And I am also stuck... I cant find the Dekar Camp.

Holy crap, this actually got developed?
The programmer's page was all but dead anytime I looked at it in the past (awhile back, mind) that I had figured he'd abandoned the IP.

Cool. Something else to keep an eye on. :D

I've played the beta and I'm honestly a bit disappointed.

The new menu is clumsy with loads of menus within menus.
Combat is still pretty basic and the environment is big and empty. The isometric viewpoint does not mix well.
And while I almost never complain about graphics (or lack-thereof), I find the character art a bit... cringeworthy. It wasn't as prevalent in the previous game but it's really noticeable now.

Well, it's a beta.

Weird that the link isn't working.

http://www.gamesofhonor.com/ and then navigate to the game section.

----------

I really liked the atmosphere that the first caravaneer manage to capture. I really dug that it was easy to get lost in the desert, and that you need to some amount of navigation to get around. I havent been able to do anything new yet. All the industries you can open up, require the better part of a million credits. And that strikes me, as maybe just a money sink?

... I fired all 26 or however many warheads at the capital's coordinates in the first one.

Jorge was there too.

Talk to the insect guy in the first town (Silos) and you can get all four tribal villages shown on your map. They're basically North, West, South, and East of the starting bunker.

Yea. That is poorly done. There wasn't a new dialogue option or alert that it happened. Now in the section area, and man the difficulty really cranks up.

I always liked the idea of Caravaneer. Too bad games with depth don't translate into flash games too well. I'll try it for a bit.

Yea, I agree that it seems a little too deep a menu tree. Some consolidation would work well.

Considering the only things in battle the last one, other than the characters, were vehicles and animals, I think the ruins and desert flora are pretty nice.

I'm a fan of Isometric usually, and this change doesn't bother me a bit.

About the only thing I could really complain about in a few hours of play, was that it was damned annoying to keep going for the bug report button instead of the exit button. Actually, in general most of the buttons are a bit too small, and/or the entire game resolution needs to be increased. Made me consider tracking down a flash pixel doubling wrapper just because of this game. And mind, I'm not playing on some kind of tiny but still full HD monitor. Just a plain 19" 1280x1024.

Fun little game. I started a char with 9 agility, 5 body, 5 accuracy, 1 intelligence. Started with 44 carry capacity, 5.5 speed, and 51 weight (so a fairly small character with a weight capacity almost high enough to carry himself - and I guess since he's small he needs little food, because he eats less than most people I recruit). He's turned into a bit of a power house when it comes to combat.

I started off by killing some Drekar who jumped me right off the bat and taking their stuff. Did some trading, bought me a donkey, and did more trading. At this point I was at the mission where I was supposed to take out the Drekar guys since I sided against them. Instead of staying on the rails I just bought a bunch of food and water and went straight south of the bunker and ran into more towns down that way. Got jumped by a couple scavengers and picked up a rifle, and from there I was really doing good with aimed shots taking out guys from across the field. Found horses for sale and got me a pair of horses (bye bye, Donkey), which made my speed on the map rocket up to 12. Soon I was trading for more money and bought a couple more horses and hired some NPCs with high agility and accuracy, also equipped with rifles. Then I got a bunch of food and water and set off again directly East. The first attempt I died of thirst after wandering through a completely empty land for a while, so I loaded and altered my heading to more Northeast and went again. This time I found a town and bought a pair of maps from the shop - one of Qubba and one of the Federation. Suddenly I had 40 new towns on my map to explore. And soon I was fighting really tough enemies, but winning thanks to rifles and scopes I kept buying from shops.

Now my squad is riding around with automatic rifles and bazookas, in military armor and federation helmets (which look kinda like riot gear).

Traveling back and wiping out the Drekar with bazookas was funny.

Oh and don't go East to these towns without a good squad. Theres a group called mad dogs who ride horses and there is no escaping them on foot. They are worth a fortune if you kill em though, you get all the horses worth 60-80k each.
