Which rock would be the most dwarf-like?
Hematite? Named after blood, source of iron and steel.
Pitchblende? Mass destruction.
Obsidian? Can make swords out of it, it comes directly from !!Magma!!
Slade? Staright from hell.
Microcline? Because microcline!!

Back in 40d it was bauxite for me as it was the only magma-safe stone.

Slade is for dirty goblins.

I'll throw in platinum nuggets/native platinum. Extreme crushing ability and value.
Though I guess that's not a rock, it's a mineral.

I'll add gabbro too. Magma safe, and the only layer that can have diamonds in it (according to wiki).

For the current competitors:
Slade is for 'evil'. It's not dwarfy.
Obsidian is the best candidate in my eyes. Can be turned into real weapons. Made by magma.  Can be used as a sure-fire way to kill things ('encased in obsidian').

Thing is, do we want to include minerals or only 'stone', which does not include ores/gems?

In terms of raw value, adamantine is dwarfiest.
In terms of badassery, obsidian as it is the solidified form of the solution to every dwarven problem: magma.
In terms of complete and utter worthlessness: You have struck microcline! x784 The damn stuff's everywhere...

Lemme apply that to platinum:
It's the second most valuable rock. It's the densest (heavies) ore/rock that can be mined. Highest material multiplier after adamantine as well. Magma-safe.
Not sure about the pointless/worthless part, but outside of artifacts (and catapult use?) it can only be used for happy thoughts and raising the value of items. And it's heavy so it slows down your haulers.

Really? In my Dwarf Fortressing microcline is almost always a rare occurrence. Which is sad, 'cos I like the color.
