Saw an article on PCGamer about Sierra possibly coming back. Their website has an updated logo and Activision copyright. It's nice to see a titan from my childhood return, even if it might not have the same type of games that made it memorable. Who knows?

Quick, reminisce about your favorite Sierra moments!

Roger Wilco will forever be my favorite space-jetting janitor/hero.

Updates:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/08/12/sierra-kings-quest-geometry-wars-indie-label/
- Kings Quest and Geometry Wars are coming
- Activision is making Sierra their "Indie" label

tl;dr - Don't fuck this up, Activision.

Well i only played Quest for Glory 1-5... and actually owned 1-4 in a dark age of mass piracy in my glorious fatherland.

I can't say I'm terribly hyped up after you said the word Activision...

Still, though, I do remember a few of their games making my childhood. Unfortunately, I never really got my hands on any of their adventure games, but I do remember a certain wild, wacky golf game that kept me on the computer for hours.

So it's Activision, not Sierra? Meh.

Quest For Glory mind you is a series that I think pretty much if they are making a sequel it needs to either
a) Be an entirely new hero
or
b) Be a total reboot

One of the greatest assets of Quest for Glory is it truly is the adventure of a single hero and how he improves bit by bit along the way. Starting off BARELY a hero in the first game and then becoming onto a demigod in the 5th... which each game being an entirely separate type of adventure with some similar themes. Even having your hero transfer from the first to the last game, something even Pokémon didn't do.

You can even see the threats scale up and things that used to be threatening in one game are more manageable in another. Ghosts for example will outright kill you in the first game if they so much as touch you, later on you actually earn methods of protecting yourself.

As well EVERY skill, every tiny advantage you get from the very first game to the fifth is incredibly important for the entire series along with everything you get along the way. Very little becomes outdated or not useful. Except the 5th game I guess but that one was an oddity.

The issue I have with making it a true sequel (As in, with the same hero) is the 5 pretty much is all about cementing you as the greatest hero who lives, or who will ever live. It seems rather final, and in terms of sheer accomplishment the 4th game also makes you the greatest hero of all time. Finally your power level got pretty dang ridiculous in the 5th game, what with you gaining the power to create a nuclear explosion... SURE it is no "End all life on the planet" like the Ultima series did... but its still insane.

There are a lot of gems Seirra had...

Too bad Lucas Arts is owned by Disney... who is never going to use their licenses.

Sierra is not a name, Sierra is people. so if you want more...
Space Quest, you're probably waiting for SpaceVenture
Leisure Suit Larry, then just go buy one (Al Lowe says he's not planing to make games ever again, so you're not getting a better version.)
Police quest- you're out of luck.
Quest for glory, you're probably waiting for Hero U
Conqests of Longbow/Camelot- you're out of luck, again, unless you like comic books
Grabiel Knight- try Cognition (there's more of it, and some people will tell you it's better)  and Moebius (which I, personally, prefer)
(wow, this is kinda depressing)

Quite true, just seeing the name though brought up a lot of pleasant memories of some click adventures that took up a great deal of my childhood.

I had a lot of excitement to Hero U... but it STILL isn't quite the same (Dungeon delving really?)

There is another game coming out that fulfills my Quest for Glory appetite.

Quest for Infamy?

Came out in June.  Lots of thumbs-up on the Steam reviews; The RPS Wot I Think review was lukewarm.

Heroine's Quest?

Hit Steam in March.  Again, lots of thumbs-up.  FREE, with no in-game purchases.  The dev's do request Patreon donations through their website.  Best of all, it fits on just three 1.44" floppy disks!

That is pretty awful news. I sense many 30 dollar king's quest cash-in hd editions in our near future.

Heroine's Quest and Quest of Infamy are already out for those looking for more QFG greatness what the ^last guy^ said

Nope not either of those... though Heroine's Quest is good.

But I am keeping an eye on the game I am referring to (I can never remember the name... Mage's Initiation or something) since it COULD be what I am looking for, or it may not be.

Either way Hero U and Quest for Infamy are not quite what I am looking for. Though Infamy is much MUCH closer then Hero U... Heck the only reason Infamy doesn't attract me is because well... I don't want to play the villain.

Actually for quite a few of them... a hd edition would probably be VERY much appreciated. Specifically kings Quest 2-4...

1 already had a good remake... 2 has had fan remakes and 3 has had one fan remake. None of them voiced of course.

5-7 are the ones that don't really need remakes... since they already have a fully voiced high quality version.

Space Quest is also a series that could use a few hd remakes... A lot of its earlier games are near unplayable.

Your groaning would be much more apt if this wasn't a bunch of series that could use it.

QfG 1-5 is on gog for $10. Buy it if you don't own it. Play them with ScummVM on mobile platforms or just use a computer.

Uhhh... Get it on Gog...

Get the Fan remake of 1 and 2...

I wouldn't even suggest playing either QFG 1 or 2 except with the fan remake... especially QFG 2 with its terrible city maze. Mind you the remake comes with the Gog purchase for the first game, but not the second I believe.

That's because it's not a fan remake. It's the official Sierra re-release (from 1991). I expect they'd have to give money to AGD if they tried to sell QFGII remake (if only to prevent "internet outcry").

Aye, name without people = basically a potentially new (or unknown) studio, that might just happen to have access to some of the IP of yore.  Still, will be interesting to see what they come up with, but no real expectations.
