OK. Clarifying things

In no way did I just edit Mephs insect race ideas to create my own creature. I had no idea about that page. I was interested in stuff about insects and i had exhausted the school library. Whats a man to do for a 2 hour bus ride? I decided that i would have a go at modding one of my favourite things into one of my favourite games. Giant-kick-ass insects. So i sketched ideas up for an entire week. Then i made this thread. Over time my interests turned from insects to wasps in particular.

This is the thread for the Hive civ. Meph gave the insect link in here.

Question: has anyone modded my raws yet?

How fast of a poison do you want for the stinger. Also I got some raws of a maggot that could be used for farming/milking of acid from it for weapons.

The very last tag in the code should go somewhere in your body_default.txt file, or what
BlackFlyme said since he mostly made it since the one I modded my self just didn't work.

Anyway how big do you want the insects to be. I mean do you want it larger than a dwarf smaller than a dwarf, larger than a wolf. that sort of stuff.

Also how good should no combat skills worker castes be compared to other animals. So far in the object testing arena they seem to be absolute garbage at fighting. can't even hit an asp let alone damage it. Who should win in 1v1 situations such as unarmed unskilled dwarf vs unarmed unskilled hive worker.

I also added an outer brain

Personal opinion on insect size: Make it slowly larger over the years.

BODY_SIZE:1:0:10000
BODY_SIZE:2:0:30000
BODY_SIZE:3:0:60000
BODY_SIZE:4:0:120000

and so on. First year its 1/6 of a dwarf, after 2 years its 1/2 dwarf, 3 years its same size, 4 years double size...

Third year, go into a chrysalis and emerge as a hydralisk and/or Japanese terror hornet...

increase their combat skills NATURAL_SKILL:stance_strike, grasp_strike, melee_combat, etc., increase their physical attributes (strength, toughness, agility), increase their size (can be done with interactions, HEIGHT and BROADNESS adds more size), make them faster (speed), or change the material of their bodyparts that are used (for example iron or steel-grade claws, like I use on my armored animals)

That actually sounds like a great idea lol
In relation to the original insect thread's idea of grazing pet larvae. At a certain interval, the it changes into a chrysalis and then the real fun begins!  :D

It's a slippery slope.  You start out modding, then move on to hard DFHacking, and next thing you know you're making your own games...

Well at the current moment, Insanegame27 is the lead designer of this race so we are asking him questions and waiting for his approval to know which features he wants. Examples include size and how long it takes for the venom in the sting to take effect

But so far he hasn't given us any answers yet so we are sort of waiting for him.Because of this we can only do certain things that are nobrainers such as adding an outer brain or adding a stinger but not the venom until we get his approval for the more balance effecting things.

For example an idea i had was for your starting 7 to start off very weak. your goal would be to capture other animals and use them as incubation chambers for your next generation of young. The next generation would be slightly stronger allowing you to capture stronger animals meaning better incubation chambers meaning even stronger young. And you have to advance quickly because if you are not strong enough by the time the first siege or titan comes you will be slaughtered.

Of course i have to wait for Insanegame27's approval first though

Hi I'm having a little trouble modding in an abdomen that i can attach a stinger to.The thing is the game recognizes it but whenever i attack it in the object testing arena the attack just passes through. I assume it's because there is no material assigned to it.

Here is the body plan (not body detail plan)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Also ignore the typos of LEFT being LFT and RIGHT being RGHT. I had to do that to prevent the text from being moved to the other side of the post

Also here is the creature file if you need that as well
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: nevermind solved the problem myself. Had to go in BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:EXOSKELETON_TISSUE_LAYERS and add
  [BP_LAYERS:BY_CATEGORY:BODY_TAIL:ARG3:6:ARG2:3:ARG1:2]

Ok new problem. I can't seem to severe the abdomen or lower body in the object testing arena. The raws are above so no need to post them again

Ok a few things need to be cleared up.

Stinger and its venom: i want its stinger to be its main weapon and it's mouth a secondary weapon. This is the only(?) race which has no custom melee weapons. Thats why they are so weak atm. The venom should paralyze the target after a few hours game time.

Meph: i like the idea of the sizes.

Heydude: i like the system of catching animals as incubators. Maybe a similar reaction to the slaves would work. Like take a caged animal to a station and that gives it a syndrone that transforms it into a wasp after 1 year.

I actually think maggots as a pet or civ member would be bad. Think of the FPS! OH ARMOK THE FPS!
I do like the idea of maggots run through reactions.

Insanegame can you answer dammthedog's question about how long it should take before the poison takes effect. You can just tell us if you want us to decide for ourselves .
