I dont think it was any different under the two previous administrations. Or five.

I read that as "accident".

So Saudi Arabia officially made Mohammed bin Salman crown prince in a kind of palace coup. Given his young age (31) and the age of his father (82) he is likely to have a very long reign in front of him.

Given that there were concerns over his health (which hasn't been real great), not surprising that they made his son crown regent over him. Kind of like if Queen Elizabeth had Alzheimers (she doesn't, I'm just making an example) and either Charles or one of their grandsons took over due to the Queens declining health.

The news is not so much that they have a Crown Prince, but that they booted Muhammad bin Nayef to get Mohammed bin Salman in its place. Also as far as I know bin Salman isn't regent, even if many sees him as the de facto ruler of KSA.

Sounds more like the King paying attention to popular opinion, but according to the CNN article, he's been hugely active in politics and pushing for reform.

Fall of their Iraq capital. Not surprising that they'd blow landmarks, especially after the Iraqi Government made a goal of taking the Mosque for the end of Ramadan.

Top quality American engineering and design folks.

Tens of millions are mostly pocket change, and that article is definitely making it look like the Afghanis made a shitty spending choice with American money. Could very well have been a night political kerfuffle if we'd backed out. Nation building is a shitty enterprise.

That is pretty interesting, because US itself uses the pattern, M81 Woodland, a lot in Afghanistan... Or used to, anyway.

What I think probably happened here, was that the Afghans had already been given surplus BDU uniforms with the woodland pattern since 2005 or so, and they just ordered more of the same.

That Mosque is also where al-Bagdahdi proclaimed the Caliphate back in the days.
