Probably some stuff earlier in the thread - I tend to do that too when catching up. But we really don't need to re-post all the old rants, it's bad for blood pressure.

Yea Israel can handle itself. They know exactly what they are doing.

Why I don't condone a lot of Israel's actions (most actually) they are effective and they kick some serious ass.
So.. To clarify, your beef with them is that they actually can protect themselves?
Not the fact that they got a free pass to openly subjugate an ethnic population.  To dictate what economic industries they may develop.  To put a limit on the finances they can have.  To prevent any of them from leaving a designated area.  To settle on land that belongs to this population, after herding them into said designated area.
To be able to roll in with tanks, blasting buildings/housing and civilians every few years, with no consequences.

Yea, I gotta agree though, they know what the hell they doing.

No, actually I was praising their ability to defend themselves. I don't know how you read that otherwise.

I don't want to get into detail with regards to what I disapprove of Israel doing because that is up there with the abortion debate with regards to things I do not want to touch with a 10 foot pole.

When I'm responding to stuff earlier in the thread, I generally quote it.

Probably due to the lack of context.

She probably meant to type "while I don't condone" instead of "why".

yea I missed that error, I did, in fact, mean while.

It was just an expression of begrudging respect for Israel's military prowess. Not an attempt to stir shit up.

Hey everyone, Daesh burned a Jordanian pilot. Jordan is sounding like they're going to get revenge. It's about time for a real army to grind the bastards out, but heck if I can see anyone doing it.

I was wondering if anyone was going to discuss that. I think ISIS's ploy is going to backfire in a big way. Beheading is seen by the West as brutal, but as a culturally acceptable form of execution in that quarter of the world. Burning someone alive in a cage is straight movie-villain theatrics (Temple of Doom, anyone?) Even in the Middle East, that shit is barbaric.

I can't see it doing enough, no one in the area is going to stamp them out, either because they aren't strong enough or they don't have the overriding national interest. I'd like to see the old blackwater head's proposal to do it with a mercenary army, there's not a snowball's chance in hell for it.

Given that they also went after Japan, whose only involvement is humanitarian aid and probably isn't even considered part of the 'evil west', they seem intent on making as many enemies as possible.

I also don't really see them defeating ISIS without a lot of help from the US. Might end up with boots on the ground, but uh, it seems like every time we put boots on the ground in the middle east, we screw things up and end up back in there, for the past two decades at least anyway.

They went after Japan because a Japanese citizen had bad enough luck or trade craft to to get caught. I don't think that it'd be significantly different if he'd been from China or Brazil or Sweden

Was just about to post about this. The King of Jordan is swearing that they'll take the fight to Daesh in a "relentless war," and they've hanged the two people,a suicide bomber they captured when her belt failed to explode and an experienced and sympathetic former Al-Qaeda operative, they were going to trade for the pilot in retribution. People across the country, hell the entire region, are super pissed.
