Seems like the death toll is rising. some say 14 but i also seen reports of 25.

That's not entirely Turkey's fault, ISIS sympathisers took up arms and shot up some Kurdish demonstrators.

Turkey's prime minister said that so far, 31 have been killed in the Pro-Kurds riots in Turkey.

The kurds are right to outrage. ISIS wouldn't have been a threat to them in the first place if it wasn't for turkish funds and their open borders policy toward islamist terrorists.

But with all the detractors aside, a mercenary unit would be effective.  We would not need government agreements or allied support, and would not risk our military personnel in a war the citizens did not want.  We would simply put money on the table and let the mercenaries take all the risks while we reap the rewards of a more stable world.

With oversight, we could even possibly have a measure of control so long as we don’t get too carried away with what that would actually mean.  We would leave everything to the mercenary unit.  They provide their own weapons, transportation, and tactics.  We would provide the money, maybe a discount on weapons, evacuation for the wounded, and the directions.  Simple directions like ‘destroy Al Qaeda’ or ‘rescue the hostage’ would be all that was needed with some intelligence information on the side.

We could do it and there would be any number of organizations that could spring from the very ground to take the money and make it happen.  Some because they wanted to help without the restrictions and discipline imposed by the United States Military, others because they felt they could make a difference, and some because they want to kill.

Mercenaries without real military with them to keep them in check? If you want ISIL thoroughly raped, burned and pillaged, you can do it for a lot less money by declaring a crusade.

I really do wonder if that would work, DJ. Sure, there's still a lot of christians in the world. But somehow I doubt there will be many christians willing to sacrifice their comfy life to take up arms and start pulling trigger in the name of the Lord. I think for every 100 radicalized muslim youngsters that travel to Syria to join the Jihad, from any random western country, you'd be counting yourself rich if you think you can find 1 christian person willing to go that way.

There's a load of really religious Christians in Africa and Latin America, though. Coupled with money from evangelicals in the US, they could become a force to be reckoned with.

So, hire a bunch of guys with guns to go and kill ISIS? Isn't that what the US army is for?

I reckon USA could cough up at least 100 000 crusaders. Lots of crazies there, especially in the Bible Belt, and they hate Muslims almost as much as they love guns. But yeah, there'd be a lot of atrocities committed. Thing is, I don't think mercenaries would be any better.

Mercenaries are also harder to control. With their money, ISIS might be able to buy some of them off, which you can't do with a regular army.
