So, i was thinking that it would be cool. How about a creature that changes shape according to it enemy? It would be a shapeless demon, that doesn't exists without first getting a shape that already exists. If there isn't ANY life in the world, there isn't ANY Klononitchas. They would live as normal people, mainly as nobles, as they may kill them and use their shapes. They need to KILL the creature to become it. So, if you had been killed by a Klononitchas, he would shape-shift into you, including with your weapons and armor, but their skills would be defined by what they did kill, instead of copying the skill of the being they killed. I said there would need to have lifeform in the world, so they could shape-shift, right? Well, they will shapeshift ONLY to civilized beings, as humans, goblins, elves, animal men and more. When killed they would simply disappear, just like boogeyman!
 They would be able to be anyone, ANY ONE, so Klononitchas quests would be pretty rare, as people who survived their attack would be hard to find.

Curiosity: From greek, Klónos= Clone, and Nýchta= Night, so i came with this name.

You should be able to use transformations to change body types already.
You could put a syndrome into the flesh of the victim and a special class
only on your shape-shifters so that only they are susceptible to it. I have
seen evidence of dfhack scripts logging kills and tracking 'exp' in a way so
it may be possible to get in there that way. You may also be able to get
away with a target-able interaction to a corpse if you were doing this in
adventure mode.

I do not know whether a transformation can accept something like
[GET_MATERIAL_FROM_REAGENT... sorta stuff as far as the body plan of
the creature that provided the meat, but this may be possible with dfhack?

The only other part you would have would be the naming, I have heard
vampires use assumed names but I don't know how you could do it yourself
through modding or dfhacking.

My guess is that this is something that can be done.

Its possible with modding, but would require an interaction in every single creature.

Dopplegangers are scary and all. But, I think something similar to the creature from The Thing would be far more terrifying to face inside your fortress.

P.S. if you've never watched The Thing you must do so asap.

I've seen some of the .lua stuff for dfhack and I saw what looked like tags from raws, I had thought that it was possible to

Snag the creature id from the corpse
Search the raws for the creature id and get its body plan etc
use that data in the transformation

I was under the impression that dfhack was injecting custom organized tags (using computer logic etc.) into syndromes.

So that if you bite someone and your bite is poisonous like a GCS you would be catching the bite via the combat log identifying the target and the source of the attack, getting the relevant information out of the raws and then injecting extra tags into either the syndrome delivered to the victim or the spider itself.

It's terrifying.
Use the magma test. Don't bother with blood samples, just throw dwarves into magma until something happens. If worse comes to worse, you can just flood the whole fort with it.

I know this is suggestions and all, but deons new genesis has "the thing". He changed vampires to act like them... they hide in your fort, kill units until you identify them.
