Ah, we should had taken his robes.

Anyway, are there any torches around here? If we're spotted, we could burn the books to make a barrier. Or start throwing burning books at them.

You think if we set that book that talks about fire on fire, it would explode?

Oh, or if there are any gaps or alcoves in the bookcase we could hide there.

Looking around, there's nothing in the way of alcoves, the bookcases are put together perfectly. However, there is a light hanging on the wall. A lantern, to be precise. Fortunately, it's removable and heavy. The spiked metal end makes it a good potential weapon.
You remove the torch, taking care not to make too much noise, but the last part suddenly snaps off. The sound of metal breaking echoes through the room, and you hear footsteps rapidly approaching. You book it for the end of the hallway.
You almost make it to the end of the bookcase hallway when a fireball hits you on the back. You cry out in pain, but keep on moving.(hp -3)
the bookcases are much more haphazard, so you manage to lose your aggressor. You bite back the burning pain, and keep on moving through the room, making sure to stay away from footsteps.

You manage to keep away from the elder librarian, if just barely. His footsteps are quite far away now, leaving you with some calm. As you wander through the almost maze-like chamber, you see another red-cloaked person, a woman this time. She is sitting down, reading a book.
Facing away from you.
You sneak up to her, hold your whip to garrote her, and proceed to do so. The sharp edges fly through the neck, messily causing her death before she can even cry out. You listen attentively for the footsteps, but after you hear nothing you get to looting.
Rooting around in her pockets, you find a key and an hourglass, strangely enough. You pocket the key, but you can't keep the large hourglass. The cloak, however, is not going to be worn. This thing is fleshy on the inside. Common sense dictates you should not wear that.
Still, you kind of realized that you aren't entirely sure where you are. You can find your way back to where you started by retracing your steps, but finding the exit will be a bit more difficult.

Hm... We need directions, but I don't think we'll find any maps of the area around here. That leaves us to either using our surroundings, following someone hoping he'll lead us out or interrogating someone.

Following someone could work. If they need to eat, then they'll probably go to some kind of kitchen or bathroom eventually. And unless they are magical, both of those could lead us out. The first because they need to bring food in from somewhere and the second because they need to get waste out of here somehow.

Look around. Are there any sings pointing to where we are? Is this made of stone or is it underground? Are there any obvious ventilation shafts or similar, anything that could point towards outside?

EDIT: Oh, wait, got an idea. Turn the hourglass. Is there anything strange about it, something that could show us physics work differently here?

And is there anything we could use to cover the lantern, so that it isn't that bright? It will help us be stealthier, probably. Maybe a piece of flesh-cloak?

+1
Also, we should look around for anything we could possibly shred and bandage ourselves with.

Funding rebels because seriously, fuck those guys.
((They're basically the new Mongols.  I gotta say, I have a newfound respect for the Jamaican police force after playing this game.))

Cutting off a piece of flesh-cloak proved to be more difficult then you imagined. Still, after a good minute of work, you can cover up your lantern. You have light, without having to sacrifice hiding in dark areas.
It chills you a bit that, if this place of the library was darker, you would have had another fight on your hands. And in your condition...
It's probably best not to dwell on that, you figure. It's a good thing you aren't bleeding much, with your elven regeneration doing it's job well. You won't heal the wound itself just yet, but you don't need to worry about bleeding out.
You pick up the hourglass, and take a closer look. The sand is entirely on one side, so you turn it. the sand falls as normal, nothing seems unusual...
A breathless moan distracts you from the hourglass, and you look at the source. The woman you just killed is stirring. She shakily begins to get up.

You turn her around, and stomp on her chest to keep her down. Her neck is still slashed, and her eyes are glowing white. You take your torch, and stab it in the eye, at an angle to damage the brain. She twitches one last time, and then expires. again.
The hourglass' sand is now flying up, coincidentally. The little amount of sand that fell down went back up in just a few seconds.
You drop your whip and take the hourglass with you. You just feel like keeping it now.
The whip is useless anyways, and this hourglass looks sturdy enough if push comes to shove. The lantern stick makes for a better weapon, too.

Anyway, the floor is made of stone. Octagonal slabs, to be precise. The roof is high enough you can't see it unless you make an effort to look up. You do so and find the ceiling to be...
Disconcerting.
You make a note not to look up again in this place. After shuddering a bit, you suddenly hear footsteps again. They don't seem to be in a hurry, so you just hide in a space between bookshelves.
Once the footsteps start quieting down, you peek out and go towards them. It's another guy, wandering about. You follow him, as stealthily as you can.
He doesn't seem to turn around, though. Ever. Just dedicated to getting somewhere.

He ends up leading you to an exit. Nothing seems to be around, again.
You peek inside, and see the man stand beside a huge gate. That's gotta be the way out.
But he's guarding it now. He's not looking in your direction, fortunately. And it's a huge room for a huge door. The door around 30 meters away from you.
The portcullis you're peeking through is in a corner. There are many pillars in the room, and there's a passageway to another room very close to you.
