Sure, but it needs to be an intelligent humanoid creature, that uses buildings and pets, requires normal food and drink. I cant make the Elementalmen from the cavern races, which eat rock and live by migrating through layer after layer. Or a hivemind of fungis... that build a distillery and brew fungi into drinks. -.-
What do big fish eat? Little fish.
Birds eat birds. Makes sense that an advanced race of fungi would consume little fungi.
I had them divided into castes, not particularly a hive mind. Such as the following:
Drone - hauls and does menial labors such as butchering, growing, hauling, etc.
Thinker - Does mentally challenging tasks such as brokering or making pants.
Warrior - Fights and fights only.Bigger and tougher than others.
Shaman - Mystical shrooms that can cast some spells and are the ones who run things. They do the transformations to turn plants from the farms into the caste warriors.
They use plant-based weaponry systems. Spore launchers, stun pods (fruit that explodes when you throw it), and that sort of thing. Melee would be fungal clubs, thorn vines (like the bladed chains orcs use), and a special type of long thorn they use as a spear.
I'm not sure how to set weapon preferences though so that a shroom warrior would prefer the fungal club over the steel battle axe they found. I think it can be done, but I'm not an expert.
My thoughts for these were as a "mini race'. Only a few special buildings and a handful of other things. I wasn't thinking of anything truly groundbreaking, just bits and pieces synergized from other more fully-fleshed out races.
